They have a high number of fi rms, employees, and dollars invested. This segment needs fashion specialists to design, manufacture, promote, sell, and distribute the products. Producers of textile and apparel goods and industry trade associations offer a great number and variety of fashion careers. In small companies, one employee may do a combination of several of these jobs. Large companies, with many more employees, have a larger number of more specialized positions. Textile and apparel manufacturing have always been labor-intensive, but are now becoming more capital-intensive because of industry restructuring, consolidation, and use of technology. They have also traditionally employed a high percentage of unskilled labor at below U.S. average wages. The skill level and wages, however, are moving upward with automation and electronics. Textile jobs, especially marketing and sales, are located in fashion centers while other textile jobs are at the headquarters and plant sites of producers, such as in the Eastern and Southern states. Apparel jobs are also near fashion centers. D8 4-H CLOTHING & TEXTILES EVENTS General Rules & Guidelines OVERVIEW The 4-H Fashion Show is designed to recognize 4-H members who have completed a Clothing and Textiles project. The following objectives are taught in the Clothing and Textiles project: knowledge of fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selection, clothing construction, comparison shopping, fashion interpretation, understanding of style, good grooming, poise in front of others, and personal presentation skills. PURPOSE The Fashion Show provides an opportunity for 4-H members to exhibit the skills learned in their project work. It also provides members an opportunity to increase their personal presentation skills. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. Membership. Participants must be 4-H members currently enrolled in a Texas 4-H and Youth Development county program and actively participating in the Clothing & Textiles project. 2. Age Divisions. Age divisions are determined by a participant’s grade as of August 31, 2015 as follows: Division Grades Junior 3*, 4, or 5 *Must be at least 8 years old Intermediate 6, 7, or 8 Senior 9, 10, 11, or 12* *Must not be older than 18 years old 3. Events. There are five (5) events conducted at the District Fashion Show: Fashion Show 3 age divisions (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) Natural Fiber Seniors only Fashion Storyboard 3 age divisions (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) Trashion Show 2 age groups (Junior, Intermediate/Senior) Duds to Dazzle 2 age divisions (Junior/Intermediate, Senior) 4. Number of Entries. Participants may enter a maximum of one division/category in each of the four (4) events. Fashion Show Buying or Construction Division Natural Fiber Cotton or Wool/Mohair/Alpaca Fashion Storyboard Accessory, Jewelry, Non-wearable, Pet Clothing, or Wearable Trashion Show There are not separate categories/divisions. -

Remember, all children should come to school in sportswear in their House colour, but no football shirts please! It would be great if parents could support their family’s House by wearing their House colour too! The whole school turned green last week when the focus was on all things eco. From Nursery to P7, pupils wore green, got creative and made a difference. These P5 and P3/4 litter pickers did a fantastic job, while these P5 designers made useful classroom organisers from recycled materials. ROLLING PLAINS DISTRICT 3 4-H January 6, 2015 MEMO TO: County 4-H Fashion Show Participants & Parents FROM: Kelli Lehman Extension Program Specialist 4-H SUBJECT: 2015 ROLLING PLAINS 3 DISTRICT 4-H FASHION SHOW Enclosed are guidelines and rules for the Rolling Plains 3 District 4-H Fashion Show. The Fashion Show will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Quanah High School in Quanah, Texas at 501 West 7th Street, Quanah, TX 79252. The show is being planned and organized by the District 4-H Fashion Show Committee. There will be no entry fee for the District Fashion Show, as the District 3 Texas Extension Education Association and the Hardeman County 4-H Parent’s Club will be sponsoring all Fashion Show awards. There will be a $7.00 fee for the noon meal, hosted by the Hardeman County 4-H Council. The meal will also be available for agents, parents, and guests. Please be sure to take note of county deadlines as they are set in a timely manner so that all county Extension offices and staff have ample time to submit their county registration forms and contestant paperwork to the District 4-H Office prior to the district deadline. In a country like India, where textile industries have been thriving for ages, the recent boom in fashion designing has led to new prospects in the existing domain of garment and accessory design. The fashion industry satisfies both the creative urge and the materialistic needs of people. You hear the term Fashion merchandising many times. Did you ever think what goes into it? Let us understand merchandising from its origin. You can recall from your early history lessons that barter of products and crafts was the start of trading practices. Slowly trading moved to ‘what was available was saleable’, so there were no complications 234 in distribution system. However, the year 1920 gave birth to ‘ready-to- wear’ and soon retailers realised that sale of such garments was big business. In a very short span of time, fashion apparel became the most important type of merchandise in department stores. As a result of the economic opportunities of fashion, a new specialisation came into being – Fashion Unit IV - Fabric And Apparel And IV - Fabric Unit merchandising. D8 4-H CLOTHING & TEXTILES EVENTS District Contest Information Date: Tuesday, April 17, 2018 Location: Bell County Expo Center 301 W Loop 121, Belton, TX 76513 www.bellcountyexpo.com Time: • See attached schedule. • The Fashion Show & Duds to Dazzle Contests will be held on the same day. 4-H members may participate in both events. They will be judged in Fashion Show first, then compete in Duds to Dazzle. • The concession stand will be open to purchase food for lunch or snacks. • The schedule is TENTATIVE until entries are received and processed. Deadlines: Please see your County Extension Agent for registration requirements and deadline. http://counties.agrilife.org/ Senior Paperwork for Senior Fashion Show (Buying, Construction, Natural Fiber) must be uploaded Paperwork: on 4-H Connect by the deadline. Junior and Paperwork for Junior and Intermediate Fashion Show participants will not be judged prior Intermediate to the day of the Fashion Show. Participants will bring two copies of their paperwork with Paperwork: them to the contest. Storyboards: In addition to the registration on 4-H Connect by March 23 the Storyboard must be physically in the McLennan County Extension Office by Tuesday, March 27 at 10 am. • All Storyboards must be received by this date. They must be PHYSICALLY in the McLennan County Extension Office by this date and time. Consider working with surrounding counties to make a plan to deliver them. They will most likely not withstand shipping. • If you want to deliver them to Stephenville, make sure they are received by Monday, March 26 so Laura can take them to Waco. -

The popularity of continuing education programs and adult high school completion programs attest to people's interest in educational development and to the growing importance of education, skills and training in today's workplace. In general, higher levels of educational attainment are associated with improved labour market outcomes. Employment rates increase and unemployment rates decrease with higher levels of education. Education in the area of Fashion Design and Merchandising is one such area that is continuing to grow and MUST grow to keep up with the dynamics of our society. Fashion in the global market and in Canada today is big business. Its component parts - the design, production and distribution of fashion merchandise - form the basis of a highly complex, multibillion-dollar industry. It employs the greatly diversified skills and talents of millions of people, offers a multitudinous mix of products, absorbs a considerable portion of consumer spending and plays a vital role in the country's economy. Almost every country in the world depends on the textile and apparel sectors as important contributors to their economy. In Canada, more and more people will need an increasing amount of training and retraining throughout their careers.
