St Michael's Church, North Rode
St Michael’s Church, North Rode http://northrodechurch.org.uk Introduction By contrast to Gawsworth, North Rode is a smaller parish. After many years in a benefice of 4 small parishes, we became part of a benefice with Gawsworth in the 2014 reorganisation, and have had the privilege of being led by the Rector. We only justify one service each Sunday, but aim to cover all types. Many of the congregation live in other parishes, with some being previous residents, but are attracted to our traditional services. We look forward to a new Rector who can build on our traditions and with God’s guidance keep the parish alive. History St Michael’s Church, North Rode, between Macclesfield and Congleton, is a grade II listed building donated by the Daintry family, and consecrated in 1846. It was designed by Charles and James Trubshaw and stone built in mainly Romanesque and Gothic revival style with a tower housing a clock on the west side. Notable features are the hammer-beam roof, encaustic floor tiles incorporating the Daintry crest, four brass corona chandeliers over the aisle, and a small statue of St Michael in a niche above the south door. Later enhancements include wood carving on the altar, rood screen and font cover done by local people around 1900. In 1904 the new oak choir stalls were added, the work of the Macclesfield School of Carvers. The vicar’s vestry was added at a later date. The kneelers were all stitched in the 1970s by ladies in the village and were organised by the late Mrs Tudor Evans of the Grange. -

The afternoon was open to all Year 12 and Year 13 students, giving them the opportunity to meet a number of representatives from both internal and external activity providers. This is a key part of the Sixth Form’s ‘powerful curriculum’ offer which encourages students to engage in enrichment activities outside of their academic study. There were an incredible amount of opportunities available to students with external providers including NCS, Royal British Legion, Wilmslow Talking Newspaper and The Chamber of Commerce Employment Readiness programme, with internal offerings such as Bar Mock Trial, Young Enterprise, Model United Nations and an array of sports teams, to name just a few. Mrs Finemore-Lunn, Year 13 Student Manager and co-organiser of the Opportunities Fair said, “This year’s Fair had a real buzz; it was very pleasing to see the Sports Hall full of students excited at the prospect of getting involved with such a wide variety of activities. We are very proud of Sixth Form students who are always so giving of their time and committed to developing their skills, helping others and broadening their horizons”. -

REPORT FROM THE INSPECTORATE Macclesfield College January 1994 THE FURTHER EDUCATION FUNDING COUNCIL THE FURTHER EDUCATION FUNDING COUNCIL The Further Education Funding Council has a statutory duty to ensure that there are satisfactory arrangements to assess the quality of provision in the further education sector. It discharges this duty in part through its inspectorate, which inspects and reports on each college in the FEFC- funded sector every four years. The inspectorate also assesses and reports on a national basis on specific curriculum areas and advises the Council’s quality assessment committee. GRADE DESCRIPTORS The procedures for assessing quality are given in FEFC Circular 93/28. In the course of inspecting colleges, inspectors are expected to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each aspect of provision they inspect. Their assessments are set out clearly in their reports. Inspectors also summarise their judgements on the balance between strengths and weaknesses using a five-point scale. Each grade on the scale has the following descriptor: • grade 1 – provision which has many strengths and very few weaknesses • grade 2 – provision in which the strengths clearly outweigh the weaknesses • grade 3 – provision with a balance of strengths and weaknesses • grade 4 – provision in which the weaknesses clearly outweigh the strengths • grade 5 – provision which has many weaknesses and very few strengths. This study explores various types of secondary education that are categorised under one of two generic terms - Jewish secondary education or secondary education for Jews. The former describes institutions, offered by individual Jews, which provided a blend of religious and/or secular education. The latter focuses on non-Jewish schools which accepted Jews (and some which did not but were, nevertheless, attended by Jews). Whilst this work emphasises London and its environs, other areas of Jewish residence, both major and minor, are also investigated. -
