THIRD PARTY FUROSEMIDE (SALIX) ADMINISTRATION Horsemen are reminded that third party administration of furosemide (Salix) is in effect at this race meet. Foal papers are not required to be on file with the Horse Identifier at the races providing the horse can be properly identified; and tattoo and/or microchip is required for all horses, with a one-time exception providing the horse can be identified by its markings. All scratches must be made no later than one hour prior to post time for the first race.

A pre-race veterinary exam is required of each entry beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the stable area by Dr. Rachel Westerlund and Dr. Brooke Harper. Bandages are not permitted during the examination. ALL HORSES NOT ON LASIX MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS 2 HOURS PRIOR TO POST TIME FOR THE FIRST RACE FOR THE PRE-RACE VET CHECK UNLESS EXCUSED BY THE STEWARDS FOR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES. LASIX HORSES MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS 4 HOURS PRIOR TO POST TIME FOR THEIR SCHEDULED RACE.

Special Events Medical Services (SEMS) provides field trauma support and works within the parameters of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS). Note: SEMS utilizes Gator vehicles specifically modified for field trauma use. A team of qualified physicians is present to supervise medical activities and to perform examinations following a fall.

TRAINERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PASSING THESE RULES ON TO THEIR EMPLOYEES AND MAKING SURE EMPLOYEES UNDERSTAND AND COMPLY.

3. Grooms will begin leading horses from the Assembly Area to the Paddock at the instruction of the Paddock Judge(s), as communicated to the Stable Steward. This will occur at approximately 2:40 PM for the Grand National, 3:25 PM for the Benjamin H. Murray Memorial, and 4:10 PM for the Western Run Plate II.

4. Grooms will lead horses in the Paddock as the Paddock Judge(s) call “Riders Up!”; Riders will mount immediately.

5. Once Riders are mounted, Grooms will lead horses out of the paddock and onto the course through the north Paddock gate.

6. After Groom releases his/her horse onto the racecourse, he/she must stand near the Paddock or Finish Line area, making efforts to socially distance.

7. After the race, Grooms will collect all horses, lead them back to the Assembly Area, then return them to their stabling area.

8. The only exception is the winner of the race. This horse will remain on the racecourse; the Groom will hold onto his/her horse for the win picture near the Finish Line posts. The Rider will dismount after the photo and the Groom will proceed directly to the Assembly Area.

Jockeys will park in the Jockey Parking Area north of the Assembly Area. Socially distanced parking spaces will be marked. 3. Facemasks must be worn at all times while on the race grounds, excepting while mounted. 4. Your trainer or his/her employee(s) will meet you at the Jockey Parking Area to get your tack. There will be a compartmentalized, open-air tent near the Jockey Parking Area to allow for changing. 5. Jockeys will be called to the Paddock one half hour before post time at the instruction of the Paddock Judge(s), as communicated to the Horseman’s Transport, who will provide transportation. 6. When the call for “Riders Up!” is announced, proceed to your horse while still wearing your facemask and mount your horse. Once everyone has mounted, your Groom will lead you through the north Paddock gate onto the racecourse. At this point, your mask may be pulled down. You should proceed directly to the start. 7. After the race, lead your horse back to the Assembly Area where the Groom will take them and return them to their van / trailer. Masks MUST be put back on before you dismount. 8. The only exception is the winner of the race. This horse will remain on the racecourse; the Groom will hold onto his/her horse for the win picture near the Finish Line posts. The Jockey will dismount after the photo and the Groom will proceed directly to the Assembly Area. 9. Only the first three finishers need weigh in at the Paddock scales. 10. If there is a claim of foul, there will be a designated person, the Stable Steward, in the Assembly Area with a radio to contact the Stewards. You will then weigh in with the Clerk of Scales, who will hand you a radio so you can speak with the Stewards. 11. If it is necessary to see the Steward(s) between races, the designated Horseman’s Transport shuttle will take you to the Stewards Stand.
