This Document Has Been Created by AHDS History and Is Based on Information Supplied by the Depositor This document has been created by AHDS History and is based on information supplied by the depositor SN 5114 - Digital Library of Historical Directories, 1750-1919: Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, 1784-1900 Study Documentation The Digital Library of Historical Directories is an online teaching and research resource produced and owned by the University of Leicester, located at www.historicaldirectories.org. It makes available high quality digitised reproductions of some 600 local and trade directories for England and Wales, for the period 1750-1919. For the purposes of deposit in the UK Data Archive, the collection has been divided into 35 studies on a regional basis. Digitisation involved scanning the hard- copy source to produce a graphic image of each page and then processing those images to generate a machinereadable text file (used on the website as the basis for searches). Both kinds of file have been deposited in the Data Archive. For each directory, the Archive therefore contains (1) a set of page images in the form of monochrome TIFF files, and (2) a single text file resulting from OCR of the TIFFs. In view of the large number of pages processed - totalling over 360,000 - it was impracticable to attempt any checking and correction of the OCR results. The accuracy of the text files is consequently rather variable. The directories contained in the present study are detailed in the following pages. The descriptions have been generated from those on the website and use similar fields, as follows: SOURCE ............. The title of the original volume. PUBLISHED .......... Publication details (place, publisher and year). REPOSITORY ......... The library or archive from which the volume was obtained. VOLUME NOTE ........ A comment on the volume used for digitisation (where appropriate), e.g. to note any missing pages. DIGITISATION NOTE .. A comment on the digitisation of the volume (where appropriate), e.g. to indicate that the digitised version of a large directory has been divided into two or more parts so as to facilitate online reference. HEADINGS ........... A series of up to 10 section headings, to outline the main content and structure of the directory. In the website version these also serve as hyperlinks for quick access to the relevant section. CONTENT NOTE ....... Additional description of the content (where appropriate) FEATURES ........... An indication of up to 3 features that inputters thought might be of interest to the user, e.g. illustrations. FEATURES NOTE ...... Additional comment on features such as illustrations (where appropriate). ID ................. An ID string for the digitised directory, consisting of a 3-letter repository code followed by numbers indicating the batch in which the directory was processed and the item number within the batch. IMAGE FILES ........ Details of the number and size of the TIFF image files. The files have automatic sequential filenames assigned by the OCR software, e.g. 0000BH7S.tif, 0000BH7T.tif ... TEXT FILE .......... Name and size of the text file resulting from OCR of the page images. Reading the Taking Action on School Journeys report, Councillor Oatway said it looked positive and will be funded from Education and Highways budget which Chirton School would be happy about.

    Catchment report 2015 www.wessexwater.co.uk Introduction Welcome to the first edition of our annual catchment report. In the past water authorities organised themselves according to river catchments and often controlled land use around water sources to prevent contamination of groundwater. However, after privatisation the focus shifted to upgrading water and sewage treatment infrastructure to provide greater guarantees that drinking water and effluent standards would be met within short timescales. While major improvements were made to the quality of our drinking water and treated effluent, they came at a high price in terms of capital and operational costs such as additional treatment chemicals and an increased carbon footprint, due to the energy used. More recently, there has been an upsurge in interest in catchment management as a less resource-intensive way to protect groundwater, streams and rivers. Since 2005 we have been carrying out catchment work in cooperation with farmers to optimise nutrient and pesticide inputs to land. This often means dealing with the causes of problems by looking at land use, management practices and even the behaviour of individuals. Addressing the issue at source is much more sustainable than investing in additional water treatment that is expensive to build and operate and leaves the problem in the environment. At the same time we have been amassing data on the condition of the rivers and estuaries in our region to ensure that any subsequent investment is proportional and based on solid evidence. We have also been working on different ways to engage with the public and influence behaviour to help protect water supplies and sewers and, in turn, the water environment.

    Chirton and Conock Neighbourhood Plan Information Statement A referendum relating to the Chirton and Conock Neighbourhood Plan will be held on Thursday 8 August 2019. The question which will be asked in the referendum is ‘Do you want Wiltshire Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Chirton and Conock to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’ The referendum area is identified on the map which is included with this information statement.
