In early August we had B Anita Bloom Executive as a warm and welcoming as a warm and welcoming can shul - a shul where members feel they are part of a family as well as a part of a community. a special Shabbat that was specifically held to welcome visitors and new members to our home. Barry, our President, urged everyone in attendance to take a few extra minutes to meet some new people and to talk with people who they did not know. I believe the purpose of this invitation was so that after a few introductory words hopefully nobody would consider anyone to be strangers and everyone would feel at home in our community. What a novel concept! This was an act that was both simple and difficult at the same time, as it required each one of us to take a risk to move beyond one’s comfortable small network to meet new people. What a gift, to walk away from here having experienced something new. 6

Shalom Beth David Families and Friends,

WELCOME BACK! I hope you all had an enjoyable summer. The shul was so quiet without you. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for this year’s upcoming programs. From kids to kids at heart, there is surely something for everyone to take part in at Beth David. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Lauren and I’m the Program Director. My role within the synagogue is to oversee all programming committees, programs, the Youth Advisors, and act as Site Supervisor to our pair of stellar Shinshinim, Gal and Yuval. Here at Beth David, we use different names to refer to the many community groups for which we offer programming. Below is a breakdown of some common lingo you might see:

Most of our programming will commence at the beginning of September, with Shabbat programs for youth kicking off Saturday September 10th! The Beth David website will be your best resource for keeping up to date with the many happenings at shul this year. Please keep an eye on our bulletin boards, electronic board, email newsletters, and our Facebook page (check us out, we’re verified)! For those of you that do not already know, in addition to posters in the Shabbat Shalom, I publish a super fun newsletter with upcoming youth and family program information on a weekly basis. If you aren’t yet on the list but want to be (and let’s be real, of COURSE you want to be!), send me an email with the title, “Add me to the Weekly Wednesday What’s Up” and to the list you shall be added. It’s as simple as that! You will never be out of the loop with youth or family programming ever again. For all other shul programming, our “This Week at Beth David” newsletter will provide you with all the updates and information you will need to register for any of our upcoming programs or events. Please contact the office for more information.

Once again, I am looking forward to another great year at Beth David. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, knock-knock jokes, quips, or words of wisdom you may have. I am always happy to chat.
