JOE ROBINSON Joe Robinson, at 28 years of age, has earned a reputation as one of the world’s greatest guitar players and a brilliant singer/songwriter. Born and raised in the Australian bush, Joe has lived in Nashville, Tennessee for the last decade and has performed or recorded with a long list of celebrated music icons including Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Keb’ Mo’, Les Paul, The Wailers, Styx, John Jorgenson, Lee Roy Parnell, and friend and mentor, Tommy Emmanuel, CGP. Joe won the second season of Australia’s Got Talent, aged 16, and has since developed a worldwide touring career, performing over 2,000 concerts across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, China and his native Australia. His live “one man” solo acoustic/electric show is an energetic display of virtuosity and witty, finely-crafted lyrics delivered with his personable Aussie charisma — he has songs inspired by George Carlin, Al Capone, a person he once picked up hitchhiking — and tells stories of performing in a California prison and growing up in a rustic farmhouse in backwoods Temagog, NSW (pop. 200). Considered one of the preeminent fingerstyle guitarists in the world today, performing complex arrangements that feature the bass line, chords, and melody all played simultaneously. Joe carries forward the legacy of legendary guitarists Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Lenny Breau, and Tommy Emmanuel. DESERT ROSE BAND~ACOUSTIC (biography) ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME MEMBER CHRIS HILLMAN AND THE DESERT ROSE BAND~ACOUSTIC TO PERFORM IN A RARE APPEARANCE Joining Chris Hillman in this acoustic appearance are John Jorgenson on guitar/mandolin, Herb Pedersen on guitar and Bill Bryson on bass. Chris Hillman was one of the original members of The Byrds, which also included Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Michael Clarke. The Byrds were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. After his departure from the Byrds, Hillman, along with collaborator Gram Parsons, was a key figure in the development of country-rock. Hillman virtually defined the genre through his seminal work with the Byrds and later bands, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Manassas with Steven Stills. In addition to his work as a musician, Hillman is also a successful songwriter and his songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as; Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, The Oak Ridge Boys, Beck, Steve Earl, Peter Yorn,Tom Petty, and Dwight Yoakam. In the 1980s Chris formed The Desert Rose Band which became one of country music’s most successful acts throughout the 1980s and 1990s, earning numerous ‘Top 10’ and ‘Number 1’ hits. The band’s success lead to three Country Music Association Awards, and two Grammy nominations. Although the Desert Rose Band disbanded in the early 1990s, they performed a reunion concert in 2008 and have since played a few shows together in select venues. Herb Pedersen began his career in Berkeley, California in the early 1960′s playing 5 string banjo and acoustic guitar with artists such as Jerry Garcia, The Dillards, Old and in the Way, David Grisman and David Nelson.

Hec Rivera Hec Rivera is a Houston, Texas-based country, rock and jazz guitarist. Raised in Rio Grande City, Texas, he has performed professionally since high school, and has since made a successful career performing, recording, and teaching. "It's a tremendous privilege to be able to tell people that this is what you do for a living," he says. "To be able to do it every day alongside people who have become family makes the experience all the better." In addition to music, Hec is an avid history buff, and enjoys fishing, aviation, the Boston Red Sox, billiards, writing, concerts, and documentaries. He cites Don Felder, Neal Schon, Richie Sambora, Eric Johnson, Steve Lukather, and his close friend and mentor, John Calderon, as his primary influences. Brixworth and District Newsletter Learn, laugh, live Registered Charity No 1178196 Issue 76 August 2021 THE BIG DEBATE – WHO IS THE GREATEST GUITARIST With so many talented and accomplished musicians using the guitar as their instrument of choice, from the early bluesmen to modern-day shredders and rockers, it is inevitable that no two-people will choose the same guitarist as their “greatest guitarist of all time”. It would be very easy for me to say that, in my opinion, my vote would go to …………. However, that is not my intention. Instead, this month’s musical journey may, hopefully, shine some light on a few players with whom you might not be too familiar, and who you might like to give a further look and listen to after this. Although a guitar is just a guitar, the sounds that they make in the hands of the ‘top players’ can be very different, as I will endeavour to demonstrate in this month’s randomly ordered selection. We start off with a player who is technically perfect, and whom we saw playing the piano in an earlier musical edition of the newsletter. That is ERIC JOHNSON, who is way above the technical skills of the more well-known Eric Clapton. The track I have selected really does demonstrate his virtuosity on the 6-string Fender Stratocaster, the tonal quality and changes are superb and a delight on the ears - Eric Johnson - Trail of Tears ‘Live 1988’ - YouTube Jazzing it up a bit, we have Swedish showman YNGWIE (Ing-Vay) MALMSTEEN, whose concert and album playlists includes classical pieces from Paganini, Vivaldi, Bach, etc.

JOHN JORGENSON QUINTET Music virtuoso John Jorgenson, known for his exquisite guitar licks and world-class musicianship, has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, Jorgenson is also regularly featured on mandolin, saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, and as a vocalist.
