BEHIND THE CAMERA JACQUES DAVILA Born in 1941 in Oran (Algeria), Jacques Davila enters cinema through television. He is indeed during three years (1969-1972) assistant of Janine Bazin and André S . Labarthe on programs like “Filmmakers of our Time” and “Archives of the 20th Century”. His first movies will be two short films dedicated to two painters: Bonnard and Ingres, before a collaboration (as director) on the TV program “Dim Dam Dom”. His first true productions are first on stage in the middle of the 70s, after which, he moves very soon to cinema. In 1976, he directs Certaines nouvelles which will be shown, for financial reasons, only in 1979 and for which he will receive the Jean-Vigo Prize. Friend of Paul Vecchiali, Jacques Davila takes part in the collective work Archipel des amours and co-writes Gérard Frot-Coutaz's movies, Beau temps mais orageux en fin de journée and Après après-demain. Two other movies will follow before a premature death interrupts his career on October 14th, 1991: Qui trop embrasse (1986) and La Campagne de Cicéron (1989). director’s filmography 1976 Certaines nouvelles 1982 Archipel des amours / “Remue-ménage” 1986 Qui trop embrasse 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA SELECTIVE FILMOGRAPHIES JACQUES BONNAFFE SABINE HAUDEPIN 2009 36 vues du Pic Saint-Loup by Jacques Rivette 2005 Peindre ou faire l’amour by Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu 2008 Capitaine Achab by Philippe Ramos 2004 Vipère au poing by Philippe de Broca 2006 Les Amitiés maléfiques by Emmanuel Bourdieu 2000 Meilleur Espoir féminin by Gérard Jugnot 2005 Lemming by Dominik Moll 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila 2002 La Repentie by Laetitia Masson 1986 Corps et biens by Benoît Jacquot 2001 Va savoir by Jacques Rivette 1984 Notre histoire by Bertrand Blier 1999 Vénus beauté (institut) by Tonie Marshall 1980 Le Dernier Métro by François Truffaut 1994 Couples et amants by John Lvoff 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila 1984 Prénom Carmen by Jean-Luc Godard JUDITH MAGRE 1983 Ballades by Catherine Corsini 2009 La Folle Histoire d’amour de Simon Eskenazy by Jean-Jacques Zilbermann 2007 La Disparue de Deauville by Sophie Marceau 2004 Nathalie by Anne Fontaine CARLO BRANDT 1993 Montparnasse-Pondichéry by Yves Robert 2010 Liberté by Tony Gatlif 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila 2008 Les Murs porteurs by Cyril Gelblat 1979 Rien ne va plus by Jean-Michel Ribes 2000 Code inconnu by Michael Haneke 1971 Un peu de soleil dans l’eau froide by Jacques Deray 1998 Déjà mort by Olivier Dahan 1958 Les Amants by Louis Malle 1993 La Petite Apocalypse by Costa-Gavras 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila TONIE MARSHALL 2008 Musée haut, musée bas by Jean-Michel Ribes MICHEL GAUTIER 2002 Une pure coïncidence by Romain Goupil 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila 1999 A mort la mort by Romain Goupil 1988 Encore by Paul Vecchiali 1997 Pour rire ! by Lucas Belvaux 1986 Qui trop embrasse by Jacques Davila 1990 Le Champignon des Carpathes by Jean-Claude Biette 1989 La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila 1986 Qui trop embrasse by Jacques Davila 1980 Les Sous-doués by Claude Zidi ABOUT THE FILM’S RESTORATION In spite of our search, we were not able to find a single copy of La Campagne de Cicéron by Jacques Davila, released only twenty years ago. This lack was behind our desire to restore this film. The restoration was led from the remaining elements of printing: magnetic soundtrack and Super 16mm film negative. The film was digitized in order to work on the calibration and to synchronize the sound and the picture. After these operations, 35 mm copies were printed.
