Al Ali Vice-Chancellor, Emirates Aviation College, Dubai The steady growth in the various sectors of the aviation industry, which is clearly indicated by the current contribution to global GDP, necessitates the need for more research on the key issues that impact this industry. These include commercial challenges, environmental impacts, new technologies, and legal/political issues. The first International Aviation Management Conference (IAMC) was organized by Emirates Aviation College in Dubai, to provide a global platform where aviation management professionals, from both the industry and academia, come together to discuss the key strategic issues facing the industry and present contemporary research findings. This document summarizes the proceedings of the first IAMC, held in Dubai from 18 to 20 November 2012. The research papers that are included in this document were accepted following a blind peer-review process. I would like to thank the keynote speakers for their vigorous and expert participation, and the authors of the research papers for their valuable presentations. My appreciation goes to the distinguished sponsors who are supporting this event, to the Editor of the Proceedings, and to the members of the Technical Committee who devoted their time and expertise to ensure compliance with the highest quality standards. 7 Proceedings of the 1st International Aviation Management Conference, IAMC – 2012, Dubai, UAE, 18 – 20 November 2012 8 Proceedings of the 1st International Aviation Management Conference, IAMC – 2012, Dubai, UAE, 18 – 20 November 2012 Conference Sponsors Platinum Sponsor 9 Silver Sponsors Strategic Partner 10 Proceedings of the 1st International Aviation Management Conference, IAMC – 2012, Dubai, UAE, 18 – 20 November 2012 Participating universities, institutions and commercial organizations Bangladesh College of Aviation Technology, Dhaka Canada Council of the International Civil Aviation Authority Germany Aviation Quality Services GmbH, Frankfurt German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Air Transport and Airport Research, Köln Hahn Air Interline Services GmbH, Dreieich Technical University, Berlin Worms University of Applied Sciences India Kasturi Institute of Management Studies, Coimbatore Jordan IATA Middle East and North Africa Latvia Riga Technical University Nigeria Nigerian Air Force Portugal Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics Nova School of Business and Economics, Lisbon South Africa University of Pretoria Sri Lanka Sri Lankan Airways Uganda Civil Aviation Authority 11 United Arab Emirates American University in Dubai dnata, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Dubai Air Wing Dubai Airports Dubai Duty Free Emirates Airline Emirates Aviation College, Dubai Emirates Group Services, Dubai Emirates-CAE Flight Training Etihad Airways flydubai UAE General Civil Aviation Authority Zayed University, Dubai United Kingdom Brunel University Coventry University Cranfield University University of Huddersfield United States of America Boeing Commercial Airplanes Panasonic Avionics Corporation 12 Proceedings of the 1st International Aviation Management Conference, IAMC – 2012, Dubai, UAE, 18 – 20 November 2012 Conference organization Conference Chairman Ahmad A.
