Elucidation of Olearia species related to O. paucidentata (Astereaceae: Astereae). Nuytsia 18(1): 83–95 (2008). A group of south-west Western Australian endemic species related to Olearia paucidentata (Steetz) F.Muell. ex Benth. are distinguished, and an identification key and comprehensive descriptions of each are presented. O. paucidentata is lectotypified. Eurybia lehmanniana Steetz is re-instated at specific rank asOlearia lehmanniana (Steetz) Lander. Maps and notes on typification, distributions, etc. of each species are provided. Introduction Prior to the preparation of an account of Olearia Moench (Asteraceae) in the ongoing Flora of Australia series it is necessary to clarify the limits of a number of Western Australian species described by Joachim Steetz (1845) which are easily confused and have been difficult to distinguish.

  • Water Flow and Flood Protection – Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands
An initiative of the Vasse Geographe Strategy Factsheet Water flow and flood protection 5 Vasse–Wonnerup wetlands July 2015 Changing the flow of water has changed the ecosystem from estuarine into a fresh-brackish wetland system. Large areas of the wetlands now dry out every summer and autumn Images courtesy Department of Water The Vasse–Wonnerup wetlands are situated within an extensive, low-lying coastal depression. At the time of settlement, the Vasse–Wonnerup resembled a typical estuary of south western Australia with intermittently open sandbars and broad, shallow basins at the mouth of meandering rivers. Wonnerup Inlet opened into Geographe Bay through two channels, one of which closed in the early 1800s. The Vasse Estuary received direct water flows from the Abba, Sabina and Vasse rivers and indirectly from Iron Stone Gully, Buayanyup River and Carbunup River, via the Broadwater and New River. The Wonnerup Estuary received water from the Ludlow River and Capel River at its northern tip. Water flow into and out of the wetlands has been dramatically altered since European settlement. Land surrounding the wetlands was cleared for agricultural development by free settlers. Extensive engineering works began as early as the 1880s to alter water flow throughout the catchment. These allowed for the expansion of farming into coastal areas and the protection of the growing Busselton township from flooding. Thanks also to John McKinney for reviewing the draft report and the many landholders for allowing access to their properties. We would also like to thank Jenny Mitchell (GeoCatch) for organising the site visit by the year eight students from the Naturaliste College and the students and teachers for showing an interest in the conservation of their local native freshwater fishes. Technical report to Geocatch. Centre for Fish & Fisheries Research, Murdoch University, Western Australia. 2 Fish and crayfish of the Carbunup and Buayanyup Rivers – CFFR Project Summary This study is the first to examine the fish and freshwater crayfish of the Carbunup and Buayanyup Rivers, south-western Australia. It aimed to determine the distribution of the fishes and freshwater crayfishes, their conservation significance and management implications to help ensure the ongoing viability of these communities. Ten sites each in the Carbunup and Buayanyup Rivers were sampled for fish and freshwater crayfish in November 2008.

  • Modified Application for Feedlot at Lot 100 Treeton Road Cowaramup.Pdf
Nick Logan Nick Logan Shire of Augusta - Margaret River PO Box 61 Margaret River WA 6285 22/4/20 Dear Nick Modified Feedlot Application and Dam - Lot 100 Treeton Road Cowaramup Please find attached the modified feedlot proposal for the above site. This includes consideration of the removal of clay which will result in an expanded dam. As such the proposal includes this dam expansion. Plans and documents are attached including most specifically the application document to DWER which comprehensively provides detailed information which is submitted with this application adjustment as justification. There appeared to be no reason to replicate this information in a separate report and so this application data is submitted as part of this planning application adjustment. It should be noted that much of the technical information attached is produced by DPIRD and this has been modified in consultation with and with the blessing of DPIRD. To address the specific queries raised during the advertising period we advise the following: With respect to maximum stocking of the feed lot a maximum of 1000 cattle would be within the feed lot at any given time. Over the period of November to May the throughput of cattle will be 3000. The same of cattle through put is proposed as to what is currently occurring instead there will be more cattle within the feed lot via this application. Within the yards area as indicated on the application plans there will be a covered work area of approximately 10 x 15 metres at approximately 3 metres high. This will effectively be constructed as a very minor open sided verandah/pergola area to provide cover for workers in the yards and to protect from the elements whether that be the sun or rain.
