  • Love You Live IORR the Album Andy Warhol's Diary Entry for Tuesday
Love You Live IORR The Album Andy Warhol’s diary entry for Tuesday, April 12, 1977. “Mick wants me to do the cover on his next album. I’m trying to think of ideas, how to do “Rolling Stones,” one of those little plastic games where you have to roll the stones into the holes.” Remember those games? Imagine one with stones instead of tiny B-B’s, a Rolling Stones theme on a piece of cardboard about one-foot square. That is what Love You Live could have been. Instead, this album is probably remembered more for the art created by Andy Warhol than for any of the songs it includes. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, London, Paris and Toronto, most of these during the tour for 1976's Black and Blue. One writer has described Love You Live as an album that captures the transition from “a lean, lethal rock & roll band to accomplished showmen.” Showmen may not be as compelling as rockers but they do know their art. Love You Live, a double album, was released 23 September 1977. The Title The story about the title is not how it came to be so much as how it came to be written on the cover. The provenance of the album’s title is not documented in available literature but it is almost an automatic choice for a live album, we Love You Live and just about any other way the Stones found their way onto vinyl. Andrew Loog Oldham, the Stones manager during their early days, started a bit of a tradition by leaving the band’s name and the album title off the Stones first two album covers (1964 and 1965).

  • No Security What Did You Think When You First Saw This Album Cover
No Security What did you think when you first saw this album cover, released November 2, 1998? What I can tell you is you were not thinking what you are going to find out about this cover. What’s Familiar? Like the Stones first album, there is no title and no band name on the cover, yet it is instantly recognizable as a Stones album. The Stones second UK album, Their Satanic Majesties Request, It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Emotional Rescue all traded on the same instant recognition. This time the iconic logo is a dead giveaway. Try to find the words No Security anywhere on the vinyl cover. Title Finding the title on the vinyl album cover may be your greatest challenge. The words No Security do not appear anywhere on the cover. So, perhaps it does not matter where the title comes from if it is not used. The CD editions of the album show the band name and album title in the jewel box hinge. The title for the album is said to have come from Mick Jagger’s reaction to the couple on the cover. It was actually the result of a short exchange between art designer and director Rob O’Connor of Stylorouge and Jagger. O’Connor describes it like this, “It was only after we got these pictures back and in front of Mick, it seems like an obvious thing to say, could we suggest the title of Security? He jokingly said, well, No Security. So, that was it, that was the title, born there.

Rolling Stones - Memory Motel Acknowledgements and Sources for Felix Aeppli’s “The Ultimate Guide” A project like this cannot be undertaken without help from a great number of people. A lot of friends have provided assistance and inspiration over the course of countless years (and with many, when I met them personally, I shared a lot more in common than the love for The Rolling Stones’ music). So I would like to thank everybody involved, especially: Arthur Flueckiger (Berne, Switzerland) whose perpetual flow of letters, photocopies and e- mails has been invaluable for this project; Edi Schwager (Zurich), music and media expert whose generosity and knowledge has been felt ever since the first phase of my “Heart of Stone” manuscript in the early 1980s; Werner Dwenger (Hamburg) and Nico Zentgraf (Berlin), acclaimed authors and editors obliging with almost any missing Rolling Stones information or CD-R within 36 hours; and Roland Hiss (Waiblingen, Germany), an ardent collector who regularly points out obscure bonus features on CD/DVD or outstanding offers on eBay; Richard Read (Brisbane, Australia), serious collector who won’t even let an edited remix on a Malaysian audio cassette go unnoticed plus expert of commercial internet downloads; and Misha Milojkovic (Palo Alto, USA) who cares as much about the decent digital representation of The Stones’ catalogue as he does about the latest “in house” promo release; Fred Aiese (USA); Jens Backlund (Finland); Rene Baechtold (Schleitheim, Switzerland); Philip Bajo (Vienna); guitarist Dave Lee Bartel (Pasadena); Juergen Barthel (Essen, Germany); guitarist Eric Bazilian (USA); Milan Ber (Ptuj, Slovenia); Olaf Boehme (Bautzen, Germany); Denis Bouakkaz (Bottens, Switzerland); Gene M.

How to Do the Montauk Music Scene, Where Willie Nelson, Courtney Love and More Rock By Carson Griffith | Billboard.com May 20, 2014 3:05 PM EDT From Sky Ferriera to 'SNL'-style karaoke, what's new and noteworthy in Montauk, on the laid-back tip of Long Island. From local concerts at Gosman's Dock to big-name headliners at the Surf Lodge, the scene in Montauk has made the formerly sleepy fishing village practically synonymous with music. But that's only one of the many factors that have been attracting hordes of visitors to the growing number of restaurants, bars and hotels in the farthest of the Hamptons. "At the end of Long Island with its romantic lighthouse, dramatic seaside bluffs and ramshackle surf shacks, Montauk, with its high-low culture, has a unique 'Wild, Wild East' quality unlike anywhere else on the East Coast," says hotelier Sean MacPherson, who owns Montauk's Crow's Nest Hotel and Restaurant. The view. New or Noticeably Different Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, 290 Old Montauk Highway - There's something for (nearly) every music lover at Gurney's this summer. Under new leadership, the food and beverage program will be headed by Jennifer Oz Leroy, the granddaughter of film producer-director Mervyn LeRoy. "We're very welcoming," says LeRoy. "Anyone can come." The new lineup includes electronic violinist ELEW in residency each weekend and a Saturday afternoon concert and fashion show series for 500 people titled "Sound Waves at the Beach" beginning July 19. Every other Thursday, the Club Room will host Arlene's World Famous Live Rock N Roll Karaoke Band (the official 2013-14 "Saturday Night Live" after-show party band).

Many of them grew frustrated with the limitations of 1960s youth culture, and particularly of new permissive sexual norms. The Rolling Stones, as a significant cultural force and symbol of London youth culture and sexual ‘freedom’, became a focus for criticism of this culture growing out of the women’s liberation movement at the end of the decade and developing in the years since then. However, the Rolling Stones’ response to changing gender roles in this period was complex and contradictory. At times, their songs endorsed women’s subordination, rejecting their claims to independence.

  • Black and Blue IORR Controversy Controversy Does Not Haunt the Rolling Stones
Black and Blue IORR Controversy Controversy does not haunt the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones haunt controversy. Sure, the music is offensive to some bluebloods, but the quickest way to piss off a whole bunch of people all at once is with a controversial album cover. Many people who will never listen to a song can see that and get offended. And the Stones were good at that when they wanted to be. And even when the cover art and title were not inherently offensive it only takes a little marketing to make it so. And so it was with Black and Blue. The Title The title of this 1976 album could have sprung naturally from a number of places. In 1976 The Rolling Stones were black and blue. Keith Richards was spiralling even further into the haze of drug-induced indifference. Getting US visas to tour was harder than ever. Mick Taylor’s heroin addiction had gotten so bad he feared for his life if he stayed with the Stones. He quit the band. The black reggae and funk sounds along with the blues roots of this album make the title a descriptive natural. Mick Jagger explained the title another way. Asked in 1976 why the album is called Black and Blue, Jagger provided the official explanation, “Because it's black and it's blue... Well, black and blue... It's a play on Blonde On Blonde. Blue for the blues - the blues have always been part of our music. Mmmm... it's as good a title as any other, isn't it? They could have called it Cowbell for all I care.
