The commitment to successfully complete a training program, and obtain a license and/or industry certification in many instances, is something to celebrate as an accomplishment toward a successful career.” Dominic Latorraca, Director of Workforce Training n FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Are you unemployed or underemployed? If so, you may qualify for financial assistance for training. One source of funding is the Monmouth County One-Stop Career Center, where Career Counselors can offer training and assistance to land your first job, re-enter the workforce or transition careers. Contact the Monmouth County One-Stop Career Center at 732-683-8850 Ext. 6011. Another source is Ready-To-Work New Jersey, a grant that provides training and education to help long-term unemployed and underemployed workers. It is administered by the Community College Consortium for Workforce & Economic Development. To determine eligibility, visit www.rtwnj.org. Some financial assistance includes advising, networking and other resources for job seekers. To learn more about these programs and find out if you are eligible contact [email protected]. n JOB PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE Students who attend certification courses through the Center for Career Development receive the advantage of a Career Services Team to assist in job placement as well as on-site clinical training and internship opportunities. Resume Assistance and Interview Preparation workshops are given in the classroom as well as one-on- one meetings with professional Job Placement Specialists. The Career Services Team offers a variety of tools, and organized student/employer events to enhance our student’s success, such as: n Semi Annual Healthcare Opportunities Day – where you can meet up to 25 healthcare employers anxious to hire our students into their specialized field. n Continuous email blast notifications of current job openings in your field of study. n Organized “Meet and Greets” – a brief introduction to a small group of selected employers invited to speak to our students about career opportunities. n Access to the Brookdale Job Board – a robust job posting site with current openings in Monmouth County. The Career Services Team is proud to refer our students to area businesses and continue to build solid partnerships throughout the community to assist our graduates in obtaining their career goals. Additionally, military spouses are eligible for up to $4000 in My CAA education benefits. These courses provide in-demand portable career training in Healthcare, Business and Information Technology. (six months or more) Get grant funding for the education program listed in this booklet through: READY TO WORK NJ* Here’s how to access grant-funded training: 1. Determine your eligibility. Visit www.rtwnj.org. Click “Job Seekers Start Here” and then “Job Seekers Registration.” Then complete the online form. A representative from RTWNJ will email you regarding eligibility. 2. Create an Employment Development Plan with your RTWNJ representative. 3. Enroll in short-term, in-demand training at Brookdale’s Continuing and Professional Studies division. The Ready to Work New Jersey (RTWNJ) program is run by the NJ Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development on behalf of New Jersey's 19 community colleges in partnership with other organizations. Funded with state and federal grants, the program provides training and job development services, and on-the-job training for the long-term unemployed and underemployed in New Jersey and matches them with employers who need their skills. The program gives preference to unemployed military veterans. The program is also designed to help the incumbents who seek training to advance their careers with their current employers. Visit www.brookdalecc.edu/careerdevelopment for full course descriptions and requirements. 3 n HEALTHCARE TRAINING 4 CENTER FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT SPRING 2018 NJ TRANSIT has launched new and improved bus routes in Monmouth and Middlesex counties that offer more frequent departures and pickups, evening and weekend service, fewer required connections, and direct access for students traveling to Brookdale. New and improved routes – 838, 832, 817 – running to Brookdale’s campus. The route changes also include schedule adjustments designed to improve connectivity at major hubs in Red Bank, Middletown, Long Branch, and Asbury Park. Required for RN Refresher and Brookdale nursing students (for nurses and healthcare workers.) Note: Textbook required. Bring $8 to class for an American Heart Association certificate. The fee does not represent income to the American Heart Association. Allow 4 weeks for CPR card.
