Manticore: You're a manticore; you have the body of a lion, the tail of a scorpion, a human head with three rows of triangular, razor sharp teeth, and a voice like music made on tin pipes. Your people are famous for being fierce and wily hunters, and for not always hunting animals. You know the difference between friend and food, however; people who are more interesting than they would be filling can become friends, and good friends can become like members of your choir. You repay loyalty with loyalty, and the world is full of enough dangers that there's always someone else to eat. Most of your life is spent in a loose choir of other manticores, hunting and wandering seperately but coming together to mate and rear cubs, share stories and mourn elders, and celebrate the things that need celebrating. You're naturally gregrious among friends, but no less comfortable alone. You tend to disdain the laws of civilization, but you know how to behave yourself. Common Personality Traits: Vain, gregarious, inquisitive, supercilious, ambitious, clever. Common Physical Traits: Wild mane, amber eyes, tinny voice, auburn fur, ruddy skin, wide mouth. Example Names: Ironjaw, Gristlemane, Riddlesting, Sheild-Biter. Splinter Race Feats: Riddling Voice (Sphinx). Otherwise you're a common manticore. Type: Large (2x1 Reach 1) quadruped Beast with a reach of 1. Your maximum Wounds equal your Constitution Score x 1.5 (rounded down) Base Speed 40ft +2 Cha or Str, -2 Wis Reviled: The Dispositions of non-manticore characters decreases by 10. Charming: Once per session, you may improve the Disposition of any 1 non-adversary NPC by 5. Linguist: You gain 2 additional Languages Natural Attack: Bite I Tail Spike: Once per round as a half action you may make a Standard Ranged Attack against one target you can see withing 40ft, inflicting 1d6 + your Con modifier in lethal damage; this attack has the Venemous (Sickening) quality. The target may make a Ref save (DC 10 + the number of Species Feats you have + your Con modifier) to take half damage (Rounded down). Man-Eater: You benefit from the first two food you consume each day, and may treat the fresh corpse of a Folk or Fey of your size or one size smaller as a Filling, Fresh, or Hearty meal. Riddling Voice: You gain Engaging Diversion and a Winged Flight speed of 30ft, but lose Tail Spike. Riddling Choir: The higher of your Wis or Int increases by one and you gain a Trick: Beguiling Riddle (Distract Trick): This check uses your Int modifier. Your target also takes a grade of Baffled. You can use this trick a number of times per scene equal to the number of Species Feats you have. Manticore Craftsmanship Armour: Manticores gnaw on iron to keep their teeth sharp; armour that can weather that can weather anything. Grants the Armoured Assurance Trick. (Primitive, Cost + 100%) Weapons: A Manticores teeth leaves pits and grooves in steel that let toxins collect. Grants the Venom Master Trick. (Primitive, Cost + 100%).
