The Nightingale Tribute A tribute to departed colleagues American Nurses Association 2021 Nightingale Tribute Nurses in Memoriam On the Saturday morning of June 23, 2005, a meeting of the 2005 House of Delegates sanctioned the Nightingale Tribute as a way of honoring nurses at the end of their life’s journey. With the consent of the house, ANA adopted this tribute as its official ceremony for honoring nurses who are no longer with us. Nurses present at the house were asked to step forward to the microphone and prepare at the appointed time to say the nurse’s name and the name of the CMA in which the nurse held membership. ANA has thus instituted this “Nurses in Memoriam” book, which is displayed, here at, ANA Headquarters 8515 Georgia Avenue Ste. 400 Silver Spring, MD 20910 At every ANA Membership Assembly there will be a white rose and white candle placed before the dais. It is the custom, approved by the 2005 house that anytime the house is in session, the white candle will be lit and will remain lit until the house adjourns. American Nurses Association 2021 Nightingale Tribute During the 2005 house, Barbara Blakeney, ANA House of Delegates Chair, invited Janice Jones, President of the Kansas State Nurses Association, and Duane Jaeger of the Kansas State Nurses Association, to the lower dais to assist with the ceremony. Janice is the architect of the tribute and Duane is the architect of the poem which is included in the tribute. American Nurses Association 2021 Nightingale Tribute Nursing is a calling, a lifestyle, a way of living. -

New Commissioned Work, One Portrait of One Man, by Beth Lipman
WEISMAN ART MUSEUM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | September 13, 2017 Contact: Erin Lauderman, 612.625.9685, [email protected] One Portrait of One Man: A new commission by the Weisman Art Museum will be installed the week of September 26, 2017 MINNEAPOLIS – The Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota will begin installation on a recently commissioned work One Portrait of One Man, by Beth Lipman. This work is a significant addition to WAM’s American collection, now spanning more than a century of innovative American art. Known for her large-scale, sculptural installations based on the seventeenth-century tradition of still life painting, Lipman worked, at WAM’s invitation, with the museum’s celebrated collection of art by the early twentieth-century American modernist Marsden Hartley. After extensive review and research in the collection, the artist selected Hartley’s homage to his friend and patron, the expatriate American literary luminary Gertrude Stein, One Portrait of One Woman as the core of her new piece. Building a glass vanity where Hartley’s portrait of Stein takes the place of the mirror, Lipman filled the cabinet with salient, oft-repeated, and reworked details that span Hartley’s long and peripatetic career. Lipman will be onsite installing the new work in the Weisman Art Museum galleries during the week of September 26. Visitors are invited to view One Portrait of One Man and talk with the artist. BETH LIPMAN Beth Lipman is a glass artist who is known for hand sculpted and blown re-imaginings of historical still life paintings. She has been artist in residence in numerous centers including the Kohler Art Center, Museum of Glass, Tacoma, Washington, and the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass. -

(HOUSTON, TX) February 13, 2020 – This spring, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) presents Breaking Tradition: Contemporary Approaches to the Decorative Arts. The exhibition features three artists— Sophie Glenn, Steven Young Lee, and Beth Lipman—who challenge the dominant cultural narratives of the decorative arts through unconventional furniture, porcelain, photography, and cast-metal pieces. Historically, the decorative arts prize a strict hierarchy of material and technique set forth by a select group of arts professionals and collectors. HCCC Curator Kathryn Hall says the artists in this exhibition disrupt assumptions about the genre's history, by making it relatable to a broader audience: “By recontextualizing traditional archetypes, patterns, and decorative motifs in a modern world, these three artists look critically at how they identify with these cultural artifacts." Furnituremaker Sophie Glenn challenges conventions of traditional fine furniture through her innovative use of material and technique. -

Matthews worked at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company from 1875 until its closing in 1888. The photograph was taken c. 1880. From the Collections of the Sandwich Glass Museum. SANDWICH REDUX he traditions of glassmaking have changed little over the centuries. During the 19th century, the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company was one of the largest producers of glassware Tin the world. The functional wares that the factory produced were innovative for their time. Today, new innovations in glassmaking are tested in small studios where hot glass is used as a medium for artists to produce new works of creative endeavor. This year, 2012, marks the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Contemporary Studio Glass Movement. In 1962 ceramics professor Harvey Littleton and chemist Dominick Labino began an experiment to produce hot glass in a studio setting as opposed to the traditional factory. Their success led the way for many of today’s glass artists, many of whom Littleton went on to teach and train. In honor of this event the Sandwich Glass Museum invited glassmakers of national and international fame to look to the past, to draw inspiration from the glassware produced in Sandwich during the 19th and early 20th centuries and to create a new work for the 21st century. -
