Professor was an archeologist in , who first appeared when , the 10th Doctor still traveled with (2008). The true identity of Professor River Song remained a secret until the 11th Doctor's next travel found out that in the future, River Song would become 's wife. A time traveler as well, the ending story of River Song was revealed earlier in 10th Doctor's “Silence in the Libray” and “Forest of the Dead”, the first time the Doctor met her.

RIVER: When you run with the Doctor, it feels like it will never end. But however hard you try, you can't run forever. Everybody knows that everybody dies, and nobody knows it like the Doctor. But I do think that all the skies of all the worlds might just turn dark, if he ever, for one moment, accepts it.
