ACTIVE LIFESTYLE JEFF’S TRANSPORTATION HUB

As most of you know, I am a hugger. It was so hard during the pandemic not to be able to hug people! I tried hugging trees but they are just not the same. But now that vaccine programs are being rolled out and restrictions are beginning to ease, many people will get to hug again! And the good Open transportation is available anywhere in Eden Prairie news is that not only do hugs feel good, they also have many health on Tuesdays 10:30-1:00 and Wednesdays 9-11:30. benefits! Hugging has such a relaxing and calming effect that it also benefits our health in other ways. It improves our sleep, increases well being and may fight off infection. Research even suggests that hugging could protect us against the common cold!* By monitoring hugging frequency among just over 400 adults who were then exposed to a common cold virus, researchers found the “huggers” won hands-down in being less likely to get a cold. And even if they did, they had less severe symptoms.

Touch is an instinct that is all-around beneficial for our mental and physical health—so we should celebrate its return. Of course, not everyone craves a hug. So for those who don’t, there’s no reason to worry about missing out on the benefits of hugs—as giving yourself a hug has also been shown to regulate emotional processes and reduce stress. Hug yourself today!

FOR YOUR HEALTH GARDENS GALORE!

BY JENNIFER WHEREATT

July is a wonderful month for our family. In July of 2017, I became a Mom to my oldest daughter Mackenzie who will be 4 on July 3rd. Mackenzie is our little firecracker! She came fast and has not stopped moving since. She does things on her own time but has a heart of gold. Summer is also a busy time for our family. We have lots of summer fun activities coming up including camping, fishing, 4-wheeling and grilling out.

One important thing that we never forget in the summer is sunscreen. As many of you know, I spent 10 years in dermatology performing skin cancer surgery, so sunscreen is my passion all year round. Did you know that skin cancer and sun exposure happen when you don’t expect it? Driving in a car, whether the sky is gray or sunny is linked to Bob E. planting herbs. Carol P. and Al putting up tomato cages. accumulation sun exposure. Skin cancer is most commonly seen on the left side of the face and this is linked to driving in a car. A few other facts are that truck drivers, bus drivers, and pilots have the highest rate of skin cancer because of the constant exposure to the sun. When it comes to melanoma, men are more likely to have this on their backs and women on the legs. Women often have more skin cancers on their legs in general as they tend to lay out in the sun.

Summer is a wonderful time of year but remember sunscreen and hydration. With the high temperatures that we have had the last few weeks, dehydration is high, especially in the elderly. Stay hydrated and always wear sunscreen and hats! Enjoy the summer months!

CRAFTS AND MORE CRAFTS! JUST FOR FUN DAYS

July 2nd is Halfway Point of 2021 – At noon today, exactly 182 1/2 days will remain before January 1, 2022. We get all excited about New Year's Day, so why not be half that excited about getting halfway through the year? Is there even a term for it? Half New Year's Day? Midyear's Day? Reaffirm commitments to New Year's resolutions! Has anyone accomplished any yet this year?

July 7th is Lucky 7 Day – It is the seventh day of the seventh month, and seven is considered a lucky number. Have you ever wondered why the number seven is considered lucky? The number seven enjoys a long history of positive associations across many different cultures. There are seven days in a week. There are seven colors in a rainbow, seven continents and there were seven wonders of the ancient world. There is also a powerful connection between the number seven and the religions of the world. Scholars have found that the number seven often represents perfection or completeness in the Bible. In Judaism, there are seven heavens. The Koran, Eileen and Lois making rock birds. Islam's holy book, also speaks of seven heavens, and Muslims making the pilgrimage to Mecca walk around the Kaaba seven times. In Chinese culture, seven represents Yin and Yang combined with the Five Elements: water, fire, earth, wood, and metal. This combination represents the concept of harmony in Confucianism.

July 18th is Perfect 10 Day – On this day in 1976, the first perfect 10 score in Olympic history was awarded to Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci for her performance on the uneven bars. The scoreboard read "1.00" because it was not set up to go to "10."

July 20th is Man on the Moon Day – Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969. It was carrying astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins. The spacecraft landed Marilyn M., Barbara T., Bev L. and Nancy Verna and Rosie making cacti in the Mare Tranquillitatis at 3:17 p.m. Central Daylight Time
