There will be a £5 fee per table per day, so, if you would like to take one, now is the time to start thinking about it. If you have items to sell please book your table early before we advertise them generally. This year as an extra we will have a pig roast and BBQ on the Sunday. Our Scarecrow Weekend does have such a good reputation, and brings visitors into the village from far and wide. I hope that this year you will all come up with loads of bright ideas as you have in the past. We are always in need of white shirts, black trousers and black shoes for the scarecrows, so if you do have any to spare please let us have them. THE earliest of the four Deeds exhibited is without date, but is probably of the latter half of the thirteenth century; by it William de Oddynggeshel, lord of the manor of Solihull, gave and confirmed to Robert Tyberay a piece of land in Solihull, lying in the township of the borough of Solihull, to him and his heirs. The seal of green wax appended to this Deed (Plate XIV. fig. 1) has on it a shield with a fess and in chief two mullets, being the arms of Odingsells; the inscription, which is very faint, reads * S' WILLI D6 OVDINGBSGLeS. William de Odingsells, Lord of Maxstoke, was descended from Galfrid de Oding- sells, who was Lord of Maxstoke in right of his wife Basilia, daughter and coheir of Gerard de Limsey, Lord of Maxstoke; a marriage which took place about the 20 Henry II. The arms borne by this line are those on the seal now exhibited; but Hugh de Odingsells, a younger son of Galfrid just mentioned, took the name of De Flanders from having resided in that country, and he added a mullet to the two already in the arms, changing their tincture to sable. Ida, one of the daughters and coheirs of William de Odingsells, became the wife of Sir John de Clinton, Knight, who was Lord of Maxstoke in her right.

The project was undertaken by the archaeology section of Warwickshire Museum Field Services, based within the Adult, Health and Community Services Directorate of Warwickshire County Council. The project has characterised, digitally mapped and subsequently analysed the resource, in order to inform the development of both minerals development frameworks and archaeological research, and provide a sound dataset for management and decision-making. This project primarily matched the criteria in Objective 2 of the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF; strategic mitigation of future extraction): the analysis of existing data and wider dissemination matched Objective 3 (mitigation of past extraction). This project has used a number of data sources, primarily: relevant geological information, in particular that which is available in digital form from the BGS; relevant archaeological data, contained in the Warwickshire and Solihull HERs; aerial photographic information including additional mapping as part of English Heritage’s National Mapping Programme. The project has resulted in: a corpus of baseline data to inform future strategies; enhancement of the Warwickshire and Solihull HERs; increased awareness of archaeological issues in relation to aggregates extraction; dissemination via this project report, a non-technical leaflet and through the Warwickshire County Council web site.
