The Property Chalmore Hole Ferry House is a former ferryman’s cottage dating from 1913 with interesting character features and well-presented accommodation in an idyllic riverside location. The property was occupied until the 1950s by the Wallingford ferryman and is referenced in Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome. Gardens and Grounds The property is approached through Chalmore Gardens at the end of which is a gravelled parking area for 3 to 4 vehicles with gated access to the large rear gardens, contained within mature boundaries and hedging with an Indian stone path leading to a staircase which accesses the house via the utility room. There is a gated staircase from the terrace to the front garden. Opposite is a further gate giving access to a lawned area and timber jetty directly on the river providing both mooring and fishing rights. Situation The house is tucked away at the end of a private road on the southern edge of Wallingford, approximately half a mile from the town centre. The property is well placed for access to the M40 motorway at Watlington (J6). The pretty Thameside town of Wallingford has an excellent range of shops including a Waitrose supermarket, schools and recreational facilities. Henley- on-Thames, Oxford and Reading are also within easy reach and offer a more extensive range of amenities. There is an excellent commuter rail service from Cholsey Station (5 mins drive appox) to London in around 55 mins.
