A momentous occasion which is open only to a few. Shown on local radio and TV, as well as Facebook, the car gained over 1000 hits, likes and shares. Friday saw the team preparing the car for the ‘Shootout’, a rally stage with 6 allocated time slots over the next 3 days to allow for practice and preparation for future competitions. Driving alongside the likes of Petter Solberg and Alistair Macrae, both World Rally Champions for Subaru, the camaraderie was fierce but the opportunity to rub shoulders with these giants of the Rally Circuit was humbling.

Saturday saw the arrival of AOC 38 Group, AVM Simon Ellard. He joined the Rally Team at Goodwood festival of Speed to present the Tornado Trophy, provided by RAF Marham, for the longest jump by a car, on the Rally stage. Achieving a magnificent 33 feet, the Marham car came in 3rd, but was pipped at the post by a Toyota, achieving a magnanimous 37 feet. Better luck next year. AVM Ellard was provided with the opportunity to be a passenger around the rally stage, with another RAF sponsored vehicle, from which his grin did not waiver for the rest of the day. For a team where this was the first opportunity to work together for a common goal, Goodwood Festival of Speed was an extremely successful week for the team to engage will all aspects of the rally circuit, without breaking the car and provide full on STEM and RAF Engagement to a whole other level. Our annual station Families day was held on Thursday 25th July. For the second year running we broke the record for the hottest July day at Marham. This year we actually broke the record for the hottest day ever recorded at Marham, an impressive 36.5°C.

With hundreds of stalls, cars and an afternoon of air displays the thousands of people in attendance had a great deal to see and do, when not sheltering from the heat!

A huge thank you must go to Sqn Ldr Parfitt, Sqn Ldr Bostrom, Sgt Siddle and Chf Tech Winsor, as without them there would not have been a Families Day!
