Welcome...... to the 5th edition of the Involve newsletter. This edition will take us past Christmas and into a very exciting Olympic and Paralympic Year 2012.

This year has seen many successful events including the Half Marathon, Youth Games and Leeds Volunteer Fair. Volunteers have continued to play a vital role in the delivery of sport in Leeds and in order that this can continue into 2012 and beyond I have produced a Sports Volunteering Strategy . Copies of the document are available by contacting [email protected]

This editions theme is around funding and there are a number of new pots of funding currently available. If you require help in applying for any of the funding please contact me and I will be happy to put you in touch with a sport development officer who will assist you. A very successful funding workshop took place at Moortown RFC and was attended by 60 people from approx 40 clubs representing a variety of sports. It is intended to deliver more of these workshops and when dates and venues have been decided I will send out the information. If anyone is interested in hosting one of these or any other workshops then please contact me with details of the facilities you have available and I will be happy to pass them to the team.

If you require further information around sports volunteering then please contact me on 0113 3950614 or e mail me at [email protected]

I wish you a very merry christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year!

Involve • Issue 5 Page 3 Burden Eased On Claiming Gift Aid It is the Government’s intention to enable Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) and charities to claim Gift Aid-style repayments on small donations starting in April 2013. The amount of small donations on which the new repayment can be claimed will be capped at £5,000 per year, per CASC or charity. In order to qualify for this new repayment, charities and CASCs will need to have been recognised by HMRC for at least three years, have been operating Gift Aid successfully throughout that time and have a good tax compliance record.

If you are a CASC or sports charity and would like to feed your comments on the proposals into a working group, please contact David Foster of the Sport & Active Recreation Alliance at [email protected]
