This article will highlight the legal, cultural and political background to this with possible consequences. The purpose of the proposed provision was questioned at the preparatory meeting of the judicial committee by members of opposition parties. The only explanation MPs of the governing Fidesz party, who initiated the new text were able to provide was a paraphrase of an alleged sentence by Robert Schuman, founding father of the European Union: “Without Christian culture there is neither Europe nor Hungary.” The major points of the recent constitutional amendment, namely the criminalization of any civil assistance to refugees and the declaration of homelessness as an unlawful behaviour are deeply contradictory to the very idea of Christian culture. (Most probably the same intention to legitimate his anti-European idea lead Prime Minister Orbán recently to reframe his concept of ‘illiberal democracy’ as a fulfilment of ‘Christian democracy.’) But this reasoning does not reveal the compensatory message sent to the European People’s Party, the party family of Fidesz in the European Parliament, and to its most powerful member, the German 1/4 CDU-CSU: even if we may have strange views on European values, but we are good Christians, like you are.

    Social Constructions of the Native Faith: Mytho-historical Narratives and Identity-discourse in Hungarian Neo- paganism by Ádám Kolozsi Submitted to Central European University Nationalism Studies Program In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Advisor: Professor András Kovács CEU eTD Collection Budapest, Hungary 2012 Abstract This thesis provides a detailed examination of the historical roots and national ideologies of contemporary Hungarian native faith movements, focusing specifically on the narrative boundary-setting mechanisms. In my historical research, based on the analysis of primary resources, I am looking for the roots of neo-pagan concepts in Hungary. In the narrative analysis of contemporary neo-pagan discourses, I examine the ethnic myths, historical memories, national ideologies and symbolic boundary-setting mechanisms. The thesis shows that native-faith myths (re)define actual group boundaries and reinforce current group identifications. In this way, neo-pagan nationalism contributes to the reformulation of national ideologies, national sentiments and „groupist‟ ideas. I argue that the public success of native faith ideas is explicable by their fitting to broader group beliefs of contemporary ethno-nationalism.     A BriefHistory of Falconry Written by Administrator Thursday, 12 October 2006 10:26 - Last Updated Friday, 11 July 2008 23:17 At the Abu Dhabi Symposium on “Falconry: a World Heritage” in September ’05experts on many aspects of falconry met and gave presentations on their various specialities. Falconry from all regions of the world was represented and many exiting facts came up that were previously unknown to those of us restricted to learning from our own compatriots and from books written in our own language. Here is a short summary from a layman’s point of view. My apologies to those countries whose names and histories do not appear, the number of experts that were able to attend the symposium was sadly limited. A significant problem with recorded history is that history can only be recorded where records exist. We are certain the origins of falconry go back much further than the origins of writing because the earliest written records found describe a highly organised and technical falconry that must have taken many hundreds, if not thousands of years to evolve to that level of sophistication. Many experts present at the Symposium are engaged in almost full-time research into this very elusive subject. Falconry was practiced Mongolia at a very remote period and was already in very high favour some 1000 years BC, that’s 3000 years ago. It achieved a very high level of refinement on the military campaigns of the Great Khans who practiced falconry for food and for sport between battles. One such military expedition reached almost to the gates of Vienna.

The chiefpurpose of the bookis to extendour knowledgeof the detaileddis- tribution of birds in eastern North America and to provide descriptive accounts of the birdsof westernPennsylvania in the hopeof stimulatinga generalinterest in localornithology. The treatmentis thusadmittedly from the 'popular'view- point. The introductorychapters provide brief descriptions of the topography andclimate, the generalaspects of the presentbird life, andespecially a valuable discussionof the distribution of breeding speciesand their relation to those factors. The author concludesthat the old and long-acceptedlife-zone concept asformulated by Merriamand J. A. Allenis i•xadequateto express the facts of distribution.Rather there are representedtwo main contrastingcategories of birds:those of chieflyaustral distribution and thoseof moreboreal affinities; whilein their actualand potentialdistribution, each species is a law unto itself and each is controlledin its northwardor southwardrange by its specialrequire- ments,so that it is notpossible to definelife zonesby meansof groupsof birds boundtogether by commonneeds of climateor othercircumstances.
