Westshore Rebels Junior Football Club 2014 Advertising Package Westshore Rebels Junior Football club 2014 Advertising Package Westshorerebels.ca Phone: 250-818-1245 Who are the Rebels? The Westshore Rebels are a junior football team located in Langford, British Columbia in the Greater Victoria region and play in 3,000 seat Westhills Stadium. The Rebels are members of the 6 team British Columbia Football Conference with teams from Nanaimo, Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley and Chilliwack. The Rebels play in the Canadian Junior Football League and offer young men 18-22 the opportunity to continue football after High School and compete for the National Championship in November. Who makes up the team? The Westshore Rebels football club is a family that has roots around Vancouver Island dating back to 1971 when we were called ‘The Dolphins’. Over the past 4 decades junior football has become a staple in the community, hundreds of players have gone through the program and many have continued onto play at Universities, Colleges, Canadian Football League and the National Football League. Many have also remained in the community, where they have raised families and started businesses. The club contributes in the community various ways and help players get employment and/or continue their education. Support and guidance are provided through various contacts and companies. Without the Rebels organization, some of these young men wouldn’t have this opportunity to continue their employment and education while playing competitive Westhills Stadium (Our home) football. Each season approximately 60 players train, practice and compete for a National Championship. Our Board of directors are made up of volunteers from the community. These include General Manager, President, Vice-President, Secretary, treasurer and various other positions to help run a successful team. Why your support is needed The Westshore Rebels football club is a non-profit organization. The club has minimal income from funding and ticket sales and look to the community for advertising and sponsorships to cover the remaining funding. There are various expenses to run the team successfully including; transportation, stadium rental, equipment and insurance just to name a few. These players live in our community and in turn contribute back to local businesses.     For immediate release Westshore Rebels Announce Coach Shane Beatty Will Continue as Assistant Head Coach for the 2017 Season Victoria, BC, Canada – January 31, 2017 – After the announcement that Charly Cardilicchia was the new Head Coach of the Westshore Rebels it was uncertain if Assistant Head Coach Shane Beatty would continue coaching for the 2017 season. We are happy to announce that Coach Beatty has agreed to continue on as Assistant Head Coach, as well as Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Player Development. “After being a part of the growing success of the Rebels team over the past year I wasn’t ready to leave. I am so proud of our team and I know that this year we will come back even stronger with the help of our highly experienced team of Coaches. I still have more to teach these talented football players and I look forward to the upcoming season,” says Beatty. Coach Beatty brings decades of coaching and athletic training experience to the Rebels. His resume includes 23 years of coaching experience at the University level in the U.S., in a wide variety of roles. In his coaching career, Beatty has served as Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Reedley College, Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach at West Virginia Tech, Assistant Director of Football Operations at Iowa State, and Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach at the College of Sequoias. Beatty has also trained high level athletes outside of football, including high school and collegiate athletes, wrestlers, Olympic sprinters, and pro golfers. During his three seasons as Head Coach of the Okanagan Sun, Beatty was awarded CJFL Coach of the Year twice, and led the team to a BCFC championship in 2015.

History of True Sport In 2001, Canada’s Federal-Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for sport came together to bring ethics and respectful conduct back into the way Canadians play and compete. They believed that damaging practices—cheating, bullying, violence, aggressive parental behaviour, and even doping—were beginning to undermine the positive impact of community sport in Canada. The first step they took in turning back this negative tide was the signing of what is now known as the London Declaration, an unprecedented affirmation of positive sporting values and principles. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport conducted a nationwide survey in 2002, which made clear the important role that sport plays in the lives of Canadians, as well as Canadians’ strong desire to uphold a model of sport that reflects and teaches positive values like fairness, inclusion, and excellence. In September of 2003, leading sports officials, sports champions, parents and kids from across Canada came together through a symposium entitled “The Sport We Want.” Several strong messages emerged from this gathering.

Further research has found that the First Teams of the Little Big Four 1902-1920 were recognized by the CRU as junior teams.
