McLaren MP4/4 - Wikipedia Britain was the only race where neither McLaren qualified on the front row with Ferrari's Michele Alboreto qualifying 2nd, Senna and Prost occupying the 2nd row. Britain was also the only race of the season that Ayrton Senna didn't qualify his McLaren-Honda on the front row of the grid. Prost failed to qualify on the front row four times during the season Brazil , Detroit , Britain and Hungary. Hungary saw the worst qualifying position for a McLaren in when Prost was only 7th fastest. Senna, as usual, was on pole at the tight Hungaroring , though only 0. During both races, his car was hampered by fuel readout problems which forced him to run slower than he otherwise could have in order to have enough fuel to finish. Both races were won by Alain Prost. At the end of the season, McLaren-Honda had taken both the Constructors and Drivers' titles Senna edging out Prost due to winning more races - only the eleven best results counted, so even though Prost scored more overall points, Senna's 8 first-place finishes to Prost's 7, meant Senna took the championship title. McLaren-Honda, who scored a then-record points in the Constructors Championship, wrapped up the Constructors title with a finish in Belgium for Round 11 of the 16 race season, it was the team's eighth finish of the season Senna and Prost would finish twice more, in Japan and Australia. The team finished the season a massive points in front of 2nd placed Ferrari. After driving the car, Hamilton said to host Jeremy Clarkson "I love this car. It's one of the best days of my life. I finally can check off my dream of driving this car. The chassis numbers, 1 through 6, were used throughout the year. USA and Japan by Senna. The Brazilian was excited with the new machine, but he was taken by surprise when McLarem signed with Peugeot, who ended up supplying the British team with cylinder units in the following year. Afterwards, at Silverstone, the Finn also tested the Lamborghini engine, and ended up posting a time 1s2 better than the one set with Ford engines during the British GP weekend. However, the three-time champion admitted that it needed more power and finesse in order to become competitive. We had the test with the Lamborghini engine lined up but, due to contractual obligations, I told Dave Ryan, the team manager, what was supposed to happen during the test. So, I told him to fill it with pounds of fuel and not mention it to anyone. The Senna has a staggered wheel layout, with inch rims in front and inch wheels at the rear. All models come with an audacious wing spoiler, and the car's multitude of functional intakes and vents give its sheetmetal the look of a faceted gemstone. The headlights are adaptive, and 12 LEDs help to create this feature. Airbags and an infotainment system are standard on the base model, but they're missing in action on the GTR. To reduce curb weight, climate control is not included, but it can be added at no extra cost. The Senna GTR comes with just a driver's seat, but a passenger seat is available at no extra cost. The base model is motivated by a twin-turbocharged 4. With the GTR, this engine is tuned to deliver an additional 25 horsepower. All models are equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The McLaren Senna is built for speed, and it has the track times to prove it. In our testing, a base-model Senna sprinted from zero to 60 mph in just 2. This coupe is equipped with a Race mode that lowers the suspension by 1. This mode also switches the car's dampers to their most performance-oriented setting. A car such as this needs brakes that are up to the task of keeping it in check, and the Senna is nicely equipped in this area. During our track test, we brought the car to a standstill from 70 mph in just feet. There's one more thing you need to know about the Senna: It's very, very loud. The car's tire noise, wind rush, and engine roar combine to make time spent within its cabin a punishing experience for the eardrums. That's better mileage than you'll get with the Bugatti Chiron. McLaren MP4/5 - Wikipedia The Brazilian ended up announcing his move to Williams starting in the following season. Senna had conversations with engineer Mauro Forghieri and demanded a more effective car, with lots of torque at mid rev range and softer at high RPM. And it performed even worse when compared with the Williams: it had around 80 fewer horsepower than the Renault engine used by Alain Prost and Damon Hill. The engine developed by Lamborghini was 70 hp more powerful than the one McLaren was using in , besides being a V Senna was pretty excited with these numbers. While the Ferrari that season was a fast all-around car particularly in the hands of Nigel Mansell , it was also chronically unreliable due to its new semi-electronic gearbox shift, giving further advantage to McLaren. McLaren took 10 victories during the season, 6 for Ayrton Senna and 4 for Prost. This was at a time when the relationship between the two men was at its breaking point, so their rivalry pushed the development of the car far ahead of the other teams as they tried to out-do each other although theirs was a very public rivalry, both actually worked well together in testing and Prost believes neither held back any information. Although Senna won six races to Prost's four and usually finished ahead of the Frenchman in the races, accidents and car breakages meant that he had four fewer points-scoring finishes and finished 16 points behind his French rival in the championship. Like , the Drivers' Championship was a two horse race between defending champion Senna and dual champion Prost. The championship was settled at the penultimate race in Japan. After dominating qualifying with Senna predictably on pole , the two McLarens were evenly matched in the race and simply drove away from the rest of the field until their fateful collision at the chicane on lap Prost was out on the spot while Senna was able to restart and after pitting for a new nose section, re-took the lead from the Benetton - Ford of Alessandro Nannini and went on to win the race.

F1 Digest Brazil Preview Intro Here we are then, rapidly approaching the last race of the 2008 season. It’s been an amazing year, and F1 Digest is here to guide you through this final Grand Prix weekend. Vital Statistics Date: 2nd November Circuit: Interlagos Length: 4.3km Laps: 71 2007 Winner: Kimi Raikkonen Last Year Last year’s championship showdown at Brazil was thrill‐a‐minute, so let’s remind ourselves of that before we look at what to expect this year. [Begin Montage] Chris: Hamilton headed up the queue in the third session, followed by Alonso. There were quite a few of them sat there with their engines overheating, with over a minute to go. Alonso appeared to be hassling Hamilton around the first few corners, but not really close enough for any major manoeuvres. [Next Clip] Me: But McLaren have that guy in the pits this week, don’t they? The FIA inspector making sure things like that wouldn’t happen. [Next Clip] Chris: Raikkonen got past Hamilton off the line, and then he was side by side with Massa but had to fall behind at the first corner. In doing so, he held up Hamilton which allowed Alonso to get past as well. Hamilton tried to regain his position but ran really wide, lost tons of places, he ended up back in 8th. [Next Clip] Chris: Hamilton got past Trulli straight away and Heidfeld practically let him through but on the next lap, he slowed right down, cars were streaming past him. He couldn’t find any gears.

Beat: Sports 2021 Austrian Grand Prix Red Bull Ring Spielberg, 04.07.2021, 22:48 Time USPA NEWS - P2 and P4 for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix Valtteri completed a solid drive to take second place and maximise the points on offer for the second consecutive weekend. Lewis suffered damage at the Turn 10 kerbs and nursed the car home well for 30 laps lacking significant downforce. At the start of the race, Lewis and Valtteri had moved up to P3 and P4 respectively after a safety car restart on lap 4 saw PER drop 10 places when jostling with NOR for P2. NOR defended P2 well for 15 laps before Lewis could make the overtake. Valtteri then passed NOR at the pit stops and the team occupied P2 and P3 until Lewis suffered the effects of kerb damage at Turn 10, losing downforce. He was passed by Valtteri and NOR on lap 53. Lewis pitted soon after for fresh tyres and a wing adjustment to try and re-balance the car for the lost downforce but was forced to settle for P4. Max Verstappen (182 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship by 32 points from Lewis (150) and Sergio Perez in P3 (104), with Valtteri (92) in P5. Red Bull (286 points) lead the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team (242 points) by 44 points in the Constructors’ Championship. Valtteri Bottas For me personally, P2 one place better than last week and I started from fifth so not a bad afternoon. I think as a team we got some decent points considering the gap we have to Red Bull in terms of pure pace.

The company is believed to have taken the decision after indications in Japan that the automotive markets are not getting any better, Honda having recently announced a 56% drop in earnings in the last quarter, compared to 2008. Prior to that the company was looking at other options, such as selling the team on to someone else. This has now been axed and the company will simply close things down and settle all the necessary contractual commitments as quickly as possible. The news, if confirmed, will be another blow to the manufacturer power in F1 as it will be the third withdrawal by a major car company in 11 months, following in the footsteps of Honda and BMW. There are also doubts about the future of Renault's factory team. The news will also be a blow to the Formula One Teams' Association, although the members have learned that working together produces much better results than trying to take on the authorities alone. It also means that there are now just three manufacturers left: Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault, and engine supply from Cosworth will become essential to ensure there are sufficient engines to go around.
