Deputy President Magazine VOLUME 1, ISSUE 3 — JUNE 2017 Deputy President, Region 1 Besides celebrating the new year, we are all celebrating our new Republican President, Donald Trump. All of the clubs in Region I realize that we are going to have to communicate all of the positive policies of the new administration. Unfortunately, we are fighting all of the negative and inaccurate information the liberal press is dishing out. THEY CANNOT FACE LOSING! I think we all add to that line, “if we did this with Obama, we would be called every name in the book!” So, the bottom line is that our clubs know “it ain’t over!” We all rested and enjoyed Christmas and the New Year. Well, put down the cham- pagne glasses, drink some strong coffee and get back to work. And this is how they are doing it, with Nancy Holly and Melanie Grammar leading the way! They soon understood we have to stop being pushed around by Jeannette the Dems and the liberal media into “thinking” the way they do!! SD 1: What better way to start than to have leadership training Sterner workshops, which RWNT and PCRW did in January. Smith Co RW had a “mix and mingle” close to the university so as to bring in new EMAIL members, especially young members. RWWC is planning PCRW had [email protected] a Black History program. Like other clubs, RWWC is planning their Lincoln Day Dinner at Lands Inn Country Club. Unfortunately, the quarter ended on a very sad note. Mollie Herrington, who was the District Directors previous DP for the region, died in March and her funeral was March 14. Of course, many of us from RW clubs wore our red jackets. I think SENATORIAL DISTRICT 1 Mollie would have thought that most appropriate. Nancy Holly SD 2: It is always good to start with a big increase in membership. SENATORIAL DISTRICT 2 Kaufman Co RW has 9 new members this year, which surpasses their Melanie Grammar membership last year. I remember going to one of their meetings early in my “career” as DP and seeing how low their membership was at the time. But, I also saw how a strong leadership team could turn this around. And indeed, they did! The President of First Ladies RW is the daughter of one of the founding members from 20 years ago. She has brought them to this century of social media and built a club webpage. Rockwall RW is working so hard on membership that their annual membership luncheon has to move to a larger venue! Fannin Co RW is working with their County Chair in hosting Chairman Tom Mechler. Another sad note is the loss this year of several members who have served their club and county for several years. With more members having significant health issues. But, they too are working hard to obtain great speakers and working with their Republican elected officials. DEPUTY PRESIDENT MAGAZINE 2 TEXAS FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN Deputy President, Region 2 Like all of our great TFRW clubs, the Region II clubs have been busy contributing to their communities, learning about the issues and supporting our Republican leaders. It is delightful to see how clubs work together to support our common goals and share their good ideas so that every club can be even more successful. One thing that has been very helpful in this regard is to periodically have a lunch meeting with one or two of each club’s officers and the District Director and Deputy President in a Senatorial District. The start of 2017 was a time of transition for many clubs as they have a new team of officers. Almost every club in the region had at least one person attend the TFRW and Greater Houston Coun- cil’s training day called Nuts ‘N’ Bolts. This day included other Regions as well and their Deputy Presidents and District Directors worked alongside with Region II District Directors and myself to put on a very successful event with 150 participants. Dynamic speaker Missy Shorey addressed the importance of getting our Republican Women to run for office. Jan Many clubs, including CyFair RW and the Woodlands RW have joint luncheons to share information andpass on their notebooks about their positions to the incoming of- ficers and committee chairs. The sharing is very important so that new officers do not Ott have to start from scratch and it makes their jobs much easier. EMAIL Community Involvement, particularly supporting our [email protected] veterans, is very important. Montgomery County RW made and donated 70 scarves to the Salvation Army and Montgomery Co Youth Service, purchased wreaths for PHONE Wreaths Across America, and send care packages to troops. 281-859-6464 Northwest Forest RW’s Caring for America Committee urges members to donate suggested items to Camp Hope which helps veterans with PTSD. The Yellow Rose RW collected toys for the Marines Toys for Tots. Golden Triangle RW donated books for the Women and Children’s Shelter. Other ideas from our clubs include Fisher House, Rainbow Room, Vet- District Directors erans Clinic, Safe Harbor, Boy’s Haven, Childrens Center and the Little Patriots Programs which supports pregnant veterans. SENATORIAL DISTRICT 4 Pearl Maggio All clubs are always looking at ways to not only build membership, but, also retain their members. To do this they need good programs and to provide avenues to make a differ- [email protected] ence. They also need to get to know one another and have a good time. Montgomery County and Magnolia Area RW had election watch parties. You know they had an SENATORIAL DISTRICT 7 even better time when they saw that Donald Trump was going to win!! Village RW Barbara Buxton have had joint Chats with another club and CyFair RW had fun discussing civics and barbarabuxton@ had the opportunity to mix with members and their friends who are not always avail- comcast.net able at their regular meeting time when they hosted a CHAT at a wine bar. CyFair RW show appreciation to their speakers by having them autograph a children’s book about our government and then donate the book to area schools in the speaker’s name. SENATORIAL DISTRICT 15 Cynthia England Congratulations Montgomery County RW members Suzanne Adams and Alice Melancon who are being honored as outstanding volunteers by the Montgomery [email protected] County Women’s Council of Organizations. How great it is to see our members honored in their communities. It is more good publicity for our clubs. Region II had a large number of members in Austin for Legislative Day. Northwest Forest RW and Village RW organized buses to Austin and graciously included other clubs in their areas. DEPUTY PRESIDENT MAGAZINE 3 TEXAS FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN DeputyDeputy President,President, RegionRegion 44 Region IV is blessed to have 13 TFRW clubs in SD 3 graciously lead by District Director Judy Parada and 9 TFRW clubs in SD 5 energetically inspired by Sue DeVillez. These ladies deserve “Gold Stars” for the leader- ship and support they provide. In the November election every county in Region IV was overwhelmingly RED!!! It’s a lonely region for “D’s” seeking office. This success owes much thanks to the leadership and dedication of our TFRW members throughout the area. Well done, ladies! Our members are also vital in making county parties successful. We know that women provide the organizational skills, the enthusiasm, the volunteer hours, the creativity and the “cookies” – as well as all the other skills needed to make our volunteer county headquarters run. It’s GIRL POWER!!!! TFRW clubs are incubators for leadership development and our members Kay use these skills to make our communities better. Lake Conroe Area RW sponsored “Texas Americans Stand United for Men and Women in Blue.” Butchko Funds raised were designated to purchase equipment not locally funded for law enforcement. Nacogdoches County RW organized a “Law Enforce- EMAIL ment Appreciation” event with the county. Funds raised help support the [email protected] local Family Crisis Center. Georgetown Area RW had a hugely successful food drive to benefit the “Caring Place” in Georgetown---a place were many PHONE members regularly volunteer. Nacogdoches HOPE (Helping Other People 936-205-6001 Eat) is fortunate to have NCRW members manage the operations. Due to a recent endowment, two club members are on the board to plan the construc- tion of a new building! (We bring all kinds of skills to our communities!) District Directors Region IV expresses thanks to Greater Houston Council for including SD 3 in the outstanding “Nuts & Bolts” leadership workshop in January. Also SENATORIAL DISTRICT 3 may thanks to Region VI and XI for including us in the Salado and Ft. Judy Parada Worth workshops. The training and networking was outstanding at all. jparada18754@ suddenlink.net TFRW clubs do not sit on past successes. Voter registration classes and leg- 832-423-9523 islative reports are a part of many club programs. And membership growth continues to be our top priority. We are proud to share our mission and spread our influence throughout our communities. Thank you to all for all SENATORIAL DISTRICT 5 Sue DeVillez that you do to spread the values we all share. The clubs in Region V are the best, most cre- ative ladies we could hope for! They are all well on their way to a successful 2017! SD 11: Angleton RW celebrated the Presidential Inauguration at the home of member Beverly Stricker, and it was a huge success! They also worked with the Brazoria Co.
