Although PPE and safety policies have changed over the years, the remarkable spirit of rig hands has not — they continue to brave extreme weather conditions and extended periods away from family to ensure Canadians maintain a standard of living that is the envy of the world. • Oilfield Services Quarterly Update | Q1 2021
Oilfield Services Quarterly Update | Q1 2021 MNPCF.ca Market Update Oil Price Gains Continue As Demand Outlook Outweighs India COVID Concerns1 Oil prices continued to increase in Q1 2021, as bullish forecasts on recovering demand this summer outweighed concerns about the impact of rising COVID-19 cases in India, Japan, and Brazil. OPEC+ stuck to their plans for a gradual easing of oil production restrictions from May to July, after OPEC slightly raised its demand growth from 5.25 to 5.95 million barrels per day for 2021. The group also expects global stocks to reach 2.95 billion barrels in July, taking them below the 2015-2019 average. Citi analysts suggest that the market may be closer to rebalancing as most of the crude inventory overhang has been absorbed by the market although refined products inventories still need to be worked off. Citi also expects the roll-out of vaccinations in North America and Europe will boost oil demand to a record high this summer. Rising COVID-19 cases in India and Brazil could hit local demand if deeper lockdowns are re-imposed. Canada’s Updated Climate Target2 As part of Canada’s commitment under the Paris climate agreement, the country agreed to lower its emissions 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. The new federal budget showed Canada is on track for a 36% reduction, thanks to an array of new policies. In late April, a new target has been set at a 40-45% reduction below 2005 levels in Canada’s emissions by the end of 2030. “It’s definitely attainable,” said Andrew Leach, University of Alberta energy and environmental economist.

We continue to have a positive view on the performance of the oil service group. At this point, we have a clear preference for those companies strongly exposed to the multiyear upturn forecast for international exploration and production spending and those oriented toward the exceptional outlook for ultra-deepwater. Given the sluggish outlook for North American E&P spending and the outperformance recently of North America-oriented stocks, we are deemphasizing this group. • O&G Drilling OEM Tier Sales Strategy
VisuNet XT OEM Tiers - Sales Strategy The VisuNet XT is targeted at Oil and Gas applications. The primary application is upstream exploration and production, in particular LWD (Logging while drilling) or MWD (mudlogging while drilling). Secondary application may present themselves on rigs, midstream (custody transfer terminals) and downstream (terminals and refinery tank monitoring/blending). Other markets with outdoor applications may accept the product for its high bright display, temperature range, processing capability, etc., but these are secondary and may be pursued as they present themselves. Three OEM tiers in Upstream Exploration The top tier customer profile is a full service or multiple service OEM. These customers focus on complete solutions for rig applications including MWD/LWD. A secondary area is a driller’s chair, driller’s console, driller’s cabin, ballast control systems, blow-out prevention systems, drawworks, topworks, and coil tubing. The atmosphere in these applications ranges from General purpose to Zone 1. The majority have migrated to Zone 2 / Division 2. Tier one These companies include NOV, GE (Geolink/Hydrill, Sondex), Halliburton, Pathfinder, Canrig/Nabors, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes Inteq, Transocean, Weatherford, FMC, Insco. This is a partial list, but the key attributes are: • Multiple divisions • Global supplier • Greater than $1 billion in annual revenues The challenge is to find the right division and right set of contacts. Usually, this will be a director of engineering or engineering manager, but in larger companies, it may be a VP of engineering. Tier two These OEMs may be limited in their offerings, or focused in one or two specific applications and are sub $1 billion in annual revenues.
