Patterns of reproductive-mode evolution in doi:10.1111/zsc.12121 Old World tree frogs (Anura, Rhacophoridae). —Zoologica Scripta, 00, 000–000. The Old World tree frogs (Anura: Rhacophoridae), with 387 species, display a remarkable diversity of reproductive modes – aquatic breeding, terrestrial gel nesting, terrestrial foam nesting and terrestrial direct development. The evolution of these modes has until now remained poorly studied in the context of recent phylogenies for the clade. Here, we use newly obtained DNA sequences from three nuclear and two mitochondrial gene fragments, together with previously published sequence data, to generate a well-resolved phylogeny from which we determine major patterns of reproductive-mode evolution. We show that basal rhacophorids have fully aquatic eggs and larvae. Bayesian ancestral-state reconstruc- tions suggest that terrestrial gel-encapsulated eggs, with early stages of larval development completed within the egg outside of water, are an intermediate stage in the evolution of ter- restrial direct development and foam nesting. The ancestral forms of almost all currently recognized genera (except the fully aquatic basal forms) have a high likelihood of being ter- restrial gel nesters. Direct development and foam nesting each appear to have evolved at least twice within Rhacophoridae, suggesting that reproductive modes are labile and may arise multiple times independently. -

Molecu- lar phylogeny derived from mitochondrial DNA sequences revealed that although the new species – designated here as Microhyla nilphamariensis sp. nov. – forms a clade with M. or- nate, it is highly divergent from M. ornata and all of its congeners, with 5.7 – 13.2% sequence divergence at the 16S rRNA gene. Myanmar Information Management Unit Overview of Kachin State for the May 2021 3W July 2021 The MIMU 3W gathers inputs from participating humanitarian and development agencies on Who is doing What, Where, across Myanmar. It is normally conducted every 6 months and provides information on agencies’ activities at various levels (village/village tract/township, and IDP camps). Given the changing situation, there has been a 9 month gap since the last 3W round documenting agencies activities as of August 28th 2020. In total, 159 agencies participated in the May 2021 3W, providing information on their humanitarian and development activities across 22 sectors and 157 sub-sectors as defined by technical/sector working groups. 3W reporting is quite comprehensive for projects of INGO, UN and Red Cross agencies, but there is under-reporting of activities for local NGOs and CBOs, since not all are participating. This indicates 54 less agencies reporting than in the last MIMU 3W in August 2020, possibly due to the pressures of the COVID pandemic and/or uncertainty re the situation for agencies’ activities countrywide. Note that Agencies must report to a sufficiently detailed level (village or camp level) for their work to be reflected fully in the MIMU 3W products. This Overview describes projects under implementation in Kachin as of May 31, 2021. Anderson (1871a: 38) mentioned the family nomen DICROGLOSSIDAE, without any comment, in a list of specimens of the collections of the Indian Museum of Calcutta (now the Zoological Survey of India). He referred to this family a single species, Xenophrys monticola, a nomen given by Günther (1864) to a species of MEGOPHRYIDAE from Darjeeling and Khasi Hills (India) which has a complex nomenclatural history (Dubois 1989, 1992; Deuti et al. submitted). Dubois (1987: 57), considering that the nomen DICROGLOSSIDAE had been based on the generic nomen Dicroglossus Günther, 1860, applied it to a family group taxon, the tribe DICROGLOSSINI, for which he proposed a diagnosis. The genus Dicroglossus had been erected by Günther (1860), 11 years before Anderson’s (1871a) paper, for the unique species Dicroglossus adolfi. Boulenger (1882: 17) stated that this specific nomen was a subjective junior synonym of Rana cyanophlyctis Schneider, 1799, and therefore Dicroglossus a subjective junior synonym of Rana Linnaeus, 1758 (Boulenger, 1882: 7). -

It was very promising to see financial support arising for the Dear Members and Friends project from within Indonesia. Well we have kicked off the year with a very successful fundraising campaign that many of you participated in. We came up with the Go Without for Gibbons concept quite a few years back but social media has finally given us the opportunity to promote the idea effectively and actually turn it into some much needed funds for us. Thank you so much to all of you who went without your luxuries for February and made donations to Silvery Gibbon Project (SGP) instead. The campaign culminated with a Comedy Night on March 1 which was lots of fun with plenty of „indulging‟ was had by all . (See page 6). Morankanda-Mukalana is a fragmented forest patch which is located in the Galle district, Southern wet zone of Sri Lanka. Biogeography of the Morankanda is noteworthy because it is located in the middle of the transition area of forest reserves or proposed forest reserves, which includes Beraliya Mukalana. This basic field survey was carried out upon the request made by Morakanda Estate management to define vertebrate checklist in the related area with the aim of starting analogue forestry as a future practice. During the study, a total of nine freshwater fish species were recorded (including four endemics), together with 14 species of amphibians (8 endemics), 43 reptile species (20 tetrapods and 23 serpentoids incl. 16 endemics), and 26 mammals (3 endemics). Avifauna comprised of 112 species (9 migrants) with 12 endemic birds (including proposed endemics). The high vertebrate faunal diversity revealed in this study paved the way for the estate management to change their plantation practice by maintaining partially analogue forestry following conservation practices which will positively affect to improve the status of wild fauna.
