The Benešov District is situated in the southern part of the Central Bohemia Region on the borders of central and southern Bohemia. The District's terrain is broken and woody with many ponds. A part of the District's natural northwestern border is formed by the Vltava River (up to the Slapy dam) and the influent Sázava River in the east. The Slapy dam, with its 1 390 hectares, is not only a reservoir for supply water but also one of the most prominent recreation centres for both groups and individuals in Central Bohemia. In the picturesque mountainous environment not far from Jeseník lies the lovely spa town of Karlova Studánka, a place with the purest air in . Another spa which cannot be left out is Lázně Luhačovice, the largest Moravian spa specialising in the treatment of the respiratory and digestive tracts, metabolic disorders, and locomotive problems.

CENTRAL BOHEMIA Equally important is the Central Bohemian spa of Poděbrady. It is situated in fertile lowlands just 50 km from Prague. The spa is famous for its treatment of heart diseases.
