WHAT • Write your vision for your career through a personal manifesto. Present it in the form of an 11X17” colour poster. Use concept, layout and to share your vision in a unique way. • Your target audience is future industry employers. Imagine that employerw will decide who to hire based on this poster. WHY • To document your understanding of and to explore how you see it influencing your future practice. • To practice communicating a message quickly and engagingly in a poster format, using concept, layout, imagery, typography, etc. • To give you an opportunity to implement design principles such as balance, scale, colour, figure/ground and framing. HOW • Review the links to examples of past design manifestos for inspiration. • Consider what you’ve uncovered about sustainable design. What resonates with you? What elements of sustainable design will you apply in your work? • Design a poster that includes your name and demonstrates that you understand the four pillars of sustainability. Write your manifesto in one or several paragraphs. It’s a poster, so keep it to 150 words maximum. • Consider the vernacular and the sensibilities of your target audience. • Consider what kind of design will best reflect you and your personality as a . • Combine two different type families in your design, and use at least three levels of type hierarchy. • Consider how to inject your personal voice into the copy itself and the typography. • Sketch different ideas. Revise and refine. • Post a jpg/png of your poster on your blog along and provide a rationale. (Rationales should be 150-300 words, and should include your research hyperlinks.) • In your post include a self-evaluation (e.g. 8/10) noting what works, what doesn’t, what you’re happy with, where you could improve... WHEN • Critique week 2. PDF on the server by 9 a.m. and printed reduced to fit on an 11X17 Final revised hand-in week 3. PDF on the server and blog post published by 9 a.m. (no print-out needed) MARKING CRITERIA • Accurately follows the brief. Read the brief carefully and follow it • Demonstrates a clear vision of your unique understanding of and relationship to sustainable design • Speaks effectively to your target audience and captures your unique personality • Demonstrates effective use of concept and layout for the poster medium (eye-catching, memorable, unique, engaging) • Demonstrates effective and appropriate use of type pairing and hierarchy To achieve an excellent/outstanding grade you must demonstrate excellence in research, ideation, conceptual thinking, and execution.
