TSA Celebrates Black History Month Submitted by Trever Miller

Thomas Sumter Academy championed diversity, personal history, and inclusion during its annual Black History Month celebration. This year’s events were led by history teacher and coach, Mr. Paul Greer. Using the principles of Science Technology Engineering Art and Math (STEAM), Mr. Greer devised multifaceted curriculum that honored African Americans. Students focused on African American history, literature, poetry, art, and scientific achievement. Specifically, students conducted research projects, wrote biographical essays, read speeches and sermons, analyzed poetry, and built story boards. Each of these elements were seamlessly merged to showcase the rich contributions made to American society. The celebration was capped off with guest speaker, Reverend (A.M.E Church) James Cabbagestalk, who spoke about life, culture, and faith during the Jim Crow Era and the Civil Rights Movement.

This is just one way to showcase how the TSA family continues to promote strong character, conscientious citizens, and loving Christians.
