PREFACE '•"^AN these bones live ? . and the breath came into them, and they ^-^ lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.' The question, that was asked in Ezekiel's vision, seems to have been answered satisfactorily ; but it is no easy matter to breathe life into the dry bones of more than a thousand pedigrees : for not many of us are interested in the genealogies of others ; though indeed to those few such an interest is a living thing. Several of the following pedigrees are to be found among the most ancient of authenticated genealogical records : almost all of them have been derived from accepted and standard works ; and the most modern authorities have been consulted ; while many pedigrees, that seemed to be doubtful, have been omitted. Their special interest is to be found in the fact that (with the exception of some of those whose names are recorded in the Wallop pedigree, including Sir John Wallop, K.G., who ' walloped' the French in 1515) every person, whose lineage is shown, is a direct (not a collateral) ancestor of a family, whose continuous descent can be traced since the thirteenth century, and whose name is identical with that part of England in which its members have held land for more than seven hundred and fifty years.

L251 NEGUS FAMILY ANCESTRY Plantagenet - Wing- Terrill Stafford - Beauchamp Bohun Lines By: Ira E. Nolte [Born 1887] [No date of publication, latest date in text is 1959] Reprinted and Distributed by: Terrell Society of America, Inc. 128 20th Ave NW Cairo, GA 39827 1 NEGUS FAMILY ANCESTRY Through TERRELL - WING- COPPOCK Lines Complete Ancestral Lines back to King Egbert of England, 802A. D. Direct Descent from Kings of England and families of English Nobility, including such names as Plantagenet, deClare, Fitz Alan, Marney, Muscegros, Beauchamp, Gassett, Bohun, Quincy, and others. Edited and Published by Rev. Ira E. Nolte Rte 2 Anoka , Minnesota [Originally Published for] $1.00 per copy [in much smaller fomat] 2 PREFACE We first became aware of the important lines of our ancestry when Mr. J. H, Ravlin of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his wife, formerly Mary Negus, gave us a blueprint of the Negus Ancestry Chart that shows three distinct lines back to the Wings of Massachusetts, the Coppocks of Pennsylvania, and the Terrells of Virginia. Then Mr. Alvin L. Anderson of Eugene Oregon gave us more interesting information on the English nobility in the Terrell line and we began research on our own.- We found the Los Angeles Public Library had an exceptionally fine genealogical Department which with the history department not only verified what we had been told, but supplied much additional information which we feel all members of our family will be glad to have, and we will herewith make it available in booklet form. It will be noted. that the Terrell family was connected-with the Royal Family of England by the marriage of Sir Thomas Terrell to Alice Marney, a direct descendent of King Edward 1.

  • THE LADIES De CLARE & the POLITICS of the 14Th CENTURY
THE LADIES de CLARE & THE POLITICS OF THE 14th CENTURY lot has been written about the Despenser’s and Piers Gaveston (who even has a ‘secret’ Society named after him), so it seems pointless repeating much of it here, but I have often A wondered what their wives, Eleanor and Margaret de Clare thought of what their respective husbands were up to, and whether the two sisters ever met to discuss their plight whilst they were near neighbours at Woking and Byfleet? Eleanor de Clare was the eldest daughter of Eleanor was a great favourite of her uncle, The Coat of Arms of Gilbert de Clare (the 6th Earl of Hertford, 7th Earl Edward II, who apparently ‘paid her living Gilbert de Clare, 7th of Gloucester and Lord of Glamorgan), and his expenses throughout his reign’, with payments Earl of Hertford, 8th second wife Joan of Acre, who was the daughter being made from the Royal Wardrobe accounts Earl of Gloucester. of Edward I and Eleanor of Castile. She was for clothes and other items – a privilege that born in 1292 at Caerphilly Castle and in 1306 even his two sisters didn’t enjoy! She was the at the age of thirteen or fourteen was married principal lady-in-waiting to Queen Isabella and to Hugh le Despenser the Younger when he was even had her own retinue, headed by her own Countess of Cornwall. Instead Edward II gave about twenty. chamberlain, John de Berkenhamstead. her Oakham Castle and from 1313 to 1316 she was High Sheriff of Rutland. As a grand-daughter of Edward I she was Margaret de Clare was the second eldest de obviously quite a catch for the Younger Clare daughter.
