Itinerary

Day 01 Narita Airport

Welcome to Tokyo! Our tour guide will greet you and escort you to the hotel. Hotel: Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu or similar class

NOTE: If you wish to stay extra nights pre-tour, we can arrange for you to stay at Tokyo Dome Hotel (which is in the center of Tokyo) instead of Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu for an additional $50 for the first night.

Tokyo (Tokyo Tower / Imperial Palace / Ginza / Sumida River Cruise / Asakusa Sensoji Temple / Ueno Park / Day 02 Odaiba)

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch In the morning you will be taken to Tokyo Tower, the world•fs tallest self supporting steel tower. At 333 meters high, Tokyo Tower is 13 meters taller than its model, the Eiffel Tower. We will go up 150 meters to the main observatory deck and get a bird•fs eye view of Tokyo. On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji in the distance. Next is a visit to the Imperial Palace, the former site of Edo Castle. In the heart of the city, you can explore the park, surrounded by moats and stone fortifications. Then we will proceed to Ginza for Tokyo•fs most famous shopping, dinning, and entertainment district, which features designer department stores, boutiques, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and night clubs. In the afternoon, board a cruise ship at Hinode Pier for a 40 minute ride along the Sumida River to Asakusa. At the Nakamise walkway, you can peruse the many stores that lead to Tokyo•fs oldest and most famous Buddhist Temple, Sensoji Temple. Continue to Ueno Park, famous for its more than 1,000 cherry trees. From there we will cross the Rainbow Bridge, and be treated to stunning views of Tokyo Bay. We will travel to the man made island of Odaiba and see cutting edge architecture, including the Fuji TV building, Panasonic Center, Toyota Mega Web Showroom, Venus Fort shopping complex, along with the biggest ferris wheel in Japan. Day 03 Mt Fuji, Hakone (Hakone Ropeway / Owakudani / Gotemba Peace Park), Bullet train from ride experience Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner We will depart from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji on our private luxury coach. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery, from thick vegetation to lowlands to rolling clouds. Stop at Mt. Fuji 5th station (depending on weather) to admire the world famous peak. Next, we head to Gotemba Peace Park, take in the scenic view of Mt. Fuji and thousands of cherry blossoms. From

Gotemba we will proceed to Hakone, we will take a tour of Hakone by taking a 20 minute ropeway from Togendai to Owakundani. Most of the area around Owakundani is considered an active volcanic zone since its creation from the eruption of Mount Hakone some 3,000 years ago. Now, you can experience hot springs and hot rivers there, where sulfurous fumes still linger. Owakundani also has splendid views of Mount Fuji in good weather. Next, travel to Hamamatsu by the Shinkansen Bullet Train, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/hr. We will stay at the Onsen Ryokan at Kanzaiji Onsen, where you can soak in the therapeutic waters of a spa bath and feast on a traditional Japanese Kaiseki banquet dinner. Day 04 Toyota (Toyota Kaikan Museum), Kyoto (Kiyomizu Temple / Kodaiji Temple& Garden) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch After breakfast our first stop is the Toyota Kaikan Museum, which has displays of Toyota•fs new car models and

technologies. It also holds periodical robot shows. From Toyota, our coach departs to Kyoto, a historical city. During World War II it was spared from air raids and saved from the atomic bomb for its cultural and historical value. We will visit the famous Kiyomizu Temple and the Kodaiji Temple. Kodaiji Temple was constructed in 1605 in memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi by the great political leader's wife. Besides fine temple halls, it features a small bamboo grove and a landscape garden with tea houses, designed by leading, contemporary master. We will stay two nights in Kyoto. First is a visit to the spectacular Heian Shrine, where we see an extensive stroll garden of the Meiji period with a grove of weeping cherry trees. Of special note are the stepping stones in the pond, which are actually the pillars of a 16th century stone bridge that once spanned the Kamo River. Here you also find the largest Torii Gate in Japan spanning the road leading to the shrine. At the Nishijin Textile Center, you can view displays of kimonos and even watch a kimono fashion show. Visit the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) covered with 18 carat gold leaf. This three story structure was originally built by the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1397. Next is the Daigo-ji Temple Garden, which was built for Toyotomi Hideyoshi's famous (cherry blossom viewing) of 1598. Lastly, we will tour Gion, the old Quarter, and Pontocho, whose cobblestone alleys vibrate with night life. Hotel: Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto or similar class

Day 06 Uji (Green Tea Ceremony), Nara (Todaiji Temple / Deer Park), Osaka(Osaka Castle / Dotonbori - Shinsaibashi) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch This morning takes us to Uji where we will experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. From there we continue to Nara, the oldest capital city of Japan. We will visit Todaiji Temple, the largest wooden building in Japan. The temple also houses the largest bronze statue of Buddha at 16.3 meters high, and the surrounding park is filled with over 1,000 Sika Deer. In the afternoon we will travel to Osaka by private charter coach. We will visit Osaka Castle, whose construction began in 1583 on the ruins of the Ishiyama Honganji Temple. The castle was the largest of its time and played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century. Our last visit for this trip is Dodonbori, which runs parallel to the Dotonbori canal. A popular shopping, entertainment, and food district, Dodonbori is known for the hundreds of neon and mechanized signs that line the street, including the famous Glico Running Man and Kani Doraku Crab signs.

Kurashiki (Canal Area / Morita Sake Brewery), Hiroshima (Miyajima Island / Itsukushima Shrine / Day 07 Okonomiyaki Making) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Today we take a ride 3 hour ride on a luxury coach to the canal town of Kurashiki. This scenic town, in merchant days, thrived as a port for rice shipments. Several old rice granaries and examples of historic architecture still remain, in addition to the stone lined canal. Taste sake as you stroll along the streets of Kurashiki. We will continue to Hiroshima, where we take a short ferry ride to the island of Miyajima, the cherry blossoms on the island are spectacular to behold. At high tide, the famed vermilion torii gate of the Itsukushima Shrine looks like it is floating in the middle of the sea. In the evening we will try making a popular Japanese dish called Okonomiyaki. In the dish you add your favorite ingredients to a mixture of batter and cabbage. The mixture is then cooked on a hot plate, and flipped using a metal spatula. The dish can be made easily at home, and you can show off your new skills to your family. Hiroshima (Peace Park / A-Bomb Museum), Iwakuni (Kintai-kyo Bridge),Yamaguchi (Rurikoji Temple Five Day 08 Storied Pagoda), Fukuoka (Yatai - Food Stalls) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch Today we will visit the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Museum. Then we will head to Iwakuni to view the Kintai- kyo Bridge, is referred to as one of the Three Amazing Bridges of Japan. 3,000 cherry trees are planted around the bridge and the magnificent blossoms are lit up. Next is a visit to Yamaguchi, where you can see the beautiful five storied pagoda. The five storied pagoda at Rurikoji Temple has been designated a national treasure. Ranked as one of the three most beautiful pagodas in Japan. The evening is free for you to relax and explore on your own, or you can join your tour guide for an hour guided walk around Fukuoka's open air food stalls (yatai). There are over 150 yatai across the city, with the highest concentrations in the Nakagawa and Tenjin districts. Typical dishes include grilled chicken skewers (yakitori), hot pot (oden), and Hakata Ramen, a famous local dish featuring thin ramen noodles simmered in pork bone soup (tonkotsu). Next is Oura Catholic Church, the oldest standing Christian church in Japan, and the only western building to be designated as a national treasure. At Glover Garden we will enjoy a beautiful collection of historic western homes from the Meiji Restoration Period. The evening ends with a cable car ride to the top of Mt Inasa, where you can take in the "Million Dollar View" of city.

Day 10 Kumamoto (Kumamoto Castle), Aso (Mt Aso), Yufuin Onsen Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner This morning we travel by private luxury coach to Kumamoto to visit Kumamoto Castle. With an impressive 49 turrets, towers, and stone walls, it is considered an engineering marvel and fitting tribute to Lord Kiyomasa Kato. There are about 800 cherry trees spread out across the castle grounds. Enjoy the combination of the castle's stone walls and imposing buildings with the blooming flowers. From there we continue to Mt Aso, an active volcano that erupted just a few years ago. Watch nature's dynamic power close up, and learn about the local flora and fauna. Weather permitting, we will take a ropeway to the top of Mt. Aso to walk around the volcano?fs crater rim. At night we will savor local flavors in a traditional Japanese banquet provided by your ryokan. Hotel: Suginoi Hotel or similar class

Day 11 Beppu (Beppu Hells), Ferry to Yahatahama, Matsuyama (Dogo Onsen / Dogo Onsen Honkan) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner From Yufuin Onsen, we drive east to a bather's paradise - the celebrated hot spring resort of Beppu. Beppu is famous for its "hells," dramatic pools of bubbling water, mud, and geysers. View four of the nine hells of Beppu, hot springs ideal for viewing rather than bathing. After the tour, we will board a ferry to Shikoku Island where we will visit Japan's oldest and most renowned hot spring, Dogo Onsen. Dogo Onsen Honkan, a building with wooden public bathhouse that dates back to 1894, during the Meiji Period. Enjoy the maze of stairways and rooms, along with the hum of bustling bathers and staff. From there we continue to Oku Dogo Onsen, where we will spend the night in a Japanese style spa resort nestled in the woods. Hotel: Okudogo Onsen Hotel or similar class

Day 12 Oboke Gorge (Oboke Gorge Boat Ride), Takamatsu (Ritsurin Park), Onaruto Bridge, Kobe (Harborland) Meals: Breakfast / Lunch After a Japanese style breakfast, we continue our journey to Oboke Gorge, one of three hidden mountain regions of Japan. Oboke is the valley located upstream of the Yoshino-gawa River. "Boke" means "dangerous to walk along," and Oboke (big boke) was named for its jagged V-shaped rocks and narrow path which, no matter how carefully or slowly you walk, makes walking dangerous. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride and take in the panoramic views of the valley. In Takamatsu we will visit Ritsurin Park, a masterpiece of Japanese landscape 100 years in the making. This sprawling park features beautiful ponds and pavilions, with Mt. Shiun as the perfect backdrop. From there our private coach takes us across Awaji Island through a series of spectacular bridges. Our next stop is the Onaruto Bridge Interpretive Center, where we will learn about Japan?fs largest natural whirlpool and the engineering innovations that went into the construction of its massive bridges. Our last visit on this trip is Kobe. Located along the waterfront, Harborland is a shopping and entertainment district that boasts a variety of restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, a Ferris wheel, and other forms of entertainment, and is the ideal spot for last minute shopping. Day 13 Tour End Meals: Breakfast After breakfast, our tour officially ends. Checkout time is 11 am and Osaka Kansai Airport can be reached in a three minute walk. NOTE : If you would like to stay longer in Japan, please contact us to book hotel accommodations.
