INVOCATION Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

Pastor: By His knowledge shall the righteous One, My servant, make many to be accounted righteous, People: and He shall bear their iniquities.

(Silence for meditation)

Pastor: Let us confess our sins to God our Father. People: Almighty God, our Lord and King, we confess to You that we have sinned and deserve nothing but Your righteous judgment. We have strayed from Your gracious rule and sought only our own way. For the sake of Your Son Jesus,

3 remove our sin, take away the curse of death, and restore us as sheep of Your own fold, lambs of Your own flock, sinners of Your own redeeming for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, has given His only Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. Amen.

4 THE WORD OLD TESTAMENT Isaiah 2:1-5 Reader: The Old Testament Reading for Christ the King Sunday is from the 2nd chapter of Isaiah.

It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

PSALM Psalm 122 Reader: We read responsively from Psalm 122.

Reader: I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!”

People: Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!

Reader: Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together, People: to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

Reader: There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. People: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you!

5 Reader: Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” People: For my brothers and companions' sake I will say, “Peace be within you!”

Reader: For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, People: I will seek your good.

EPISTLE Romans 13:8-14 (Today’s Text) Reader: The Epistle is from the 13th Chapter of Romans.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 24:36-44 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to Matthew the 24th chapter. People: Glory to You, O Lord.

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding

6 with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, O Christ.

SACRAMENT The Lord's Supper is a gracious gift instituted by Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and as a means of receiving God’s grace. We believe that in the holy supper, the true body and blood of the Savior, along with the bread and wine, comes to us. We are encouraged by Jesus to commune frequently and God tells us through St. Paul that we must examine ourselves in preparation for a worthy reception of the sacrament. This includes a confession of our sins, a proclamation of our faith, and a determination to lead a more godly life in the future. If you also acknowledge your sinfulness and your need for a Savior, and recognize Christ’s physical presence in the bread and wine, we invite you to join us at the Lord’s table. NOTE: If you have a physical condition that would prohibit you from taking wine in the Lord’s Supper, a few individual cups of white grape juice, instead of wine, are placed in the center of each communion tray for you. For those with a gluten allergy we now provide gluten-free wafers. Please help yourself to the gluten-free wafers located in the center of the tray

PREFACE Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

11 Pastor: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Pastor: Blessed are You, O Lord, King of all creation, for You have had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. We give You thanks that our Good Shepherd laid down His life for us, His sheep, and thereby opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. As You feed us now with His own body and blood, grant us true repentance and faith in the forgiveness of our sins, and joy in Your never-failing presence. Hear us as we pray:

LORD'S PRAYER sung by all

Our Fa--ther, Which art in heav--en, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heav--en. Give us this day our dai--ly bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glo--ry for-ev--er. A--men

WORDS OF INSTITUTION Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: "Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me."

In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: "Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

12 Pastor: Remembering all that Jesus accomplished for us and rejoicing in the hope that is ours in Him, we confess that He is Lord and that on the Last Day He will come to bring to completion all that began for us and our salvation. People: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

“COME, LORD JESUS” ADVENT SERIES- “Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest…” So begins the common table prayer. In the spirit of Revelation 22:20, during Advent services we will apply this petition to Advent devotions. Through short and simple daily practices we will learn to pray, “Come Lord Jesus” in a way that gives daily strength and hope. “Daily devotions.” That sounds like a huge challenge to many of us. Whether you are a household of one, two, three, or more, having daily devotions can be a struggle. Our Advent series will use God’s word to equip disciples for this struggle and provide simple and effective ways to help meet this challenge. With God’s help we can learn to daily pray, “Come, Lord Jesus,” not only to daily bless our food but our lives, finding strength and hope in Jesus. The hope and strength that Jesus gives comes in his victory over the “unholy trinity”: the devil, our sinful nature, and the sinful world. This includes the promise of fully flourishing in the life to come. In this series we will explore how God’s word teaches and guides us in following our victorious Lord as we look to him in daily devotion to his word. “Advent” means “coming.” During this season of Advent our focus will be on Jesus’s “three comings” to save us-past, present, and future. Jesus has come and accomplished his saving work. He continues to come by the power of the Holy Spirit through the word and sacraments. He will come again on the last day for our final deliverance. This series will match Christ’s three “comings” with his “overcoming” of the “unholy trinity,” the enemies of his saving word.

WEEK 1: Praying, COME, LORD JESUS, to Him Who Has Come to Defeat the Devil (December 4) WEEK 2: Praying, COME, LORD JESUS, to Him Who Comes to Lead Us in Daily Life (December 11) WEEK 3: Praying, COME, LORD JESUS, to Him Who Will Come Again to Bring Final Victory (December 18)

Each service will be at 4:00 p.m. on the Wednesdays noted, and be followed by a fellowship meal. Please take these extra moments to prepare yourself for His coming again at Christmas and His coming at the end of time!

25 STEWARDSHIP NOTE – “Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.”- Matthew 25:2 A truly wise man, as Jesus once said, builds on the Word of Jesus. There is no other foundation which will stand. Any other path is a foolish one. His Word leads to life, and to depart from His Word leads to death. Clinging to His Word, we know we have His blessing.

IRA DISBURSEMENTS TO CHARITY- Would you like to pay less taxes? Finding it harder to itemize deductions for your Federal taxes? Want to benefit both yourself and a charity? Well, do you know that if you need to have a set amount of disbursements from your IRA (you’re 70 ½ or older) you can have the IRA funds go directly to a charity without being taxed. That’s probably 10-15% of the contribution. For information on this, contact the financial organization where you have your IRA.

LWML SUGGESTION BOX- We’re approaching the end of the year and the LWML is busy planning activities for 2020. We’d also like your help. We’re asking for any suggestions you would like to offer for our monthly programs, and interesting nearby outings during the summer months. You can do this, by dropping your ideas in a container marked “Suggestions” at the Welcome Center. We are blessed to have a group of women at Trinity supporting our LWML and look forward to hearing from you.

COMMUNITY OF GRATITUDE EMERGENCY FOOD CENTER- We are in need of many items this week. Usually during this time of year we have a much greater need to provide for our families. The items are: All-In-Ones (meals in a box or can), Applesauce, Canned or Instant Potatoes, Cereal, Condiments, Fruit Juices, Jelly and Soup. They are also always in need of plastic bags to pack the groceries to give out to the clients. Please place your donations in the box by the front entry and volunteers will deliver them to the food center. Contact Marilyn Tomsik 352-347-1469 if you have any questions. There are several opportunities for physically volunteering at the center, and if you have any questions call Linda Kafader, Director at 352-322-8810. Thank you to everyone supporting this Board of Human Care ministry.

26 DAILY BREAD MINISTRY: Are you a Trinity member experiencing a temporary need of help with meals? It may be that you are recovering from an illness, injury, or surgery. Our congregation has a Daily Bread Ministry of caring volunteers willing to bring you a prepared meal just for the asking. Contact LouAnn O'Brien at 352-643-1558 or Jane Larson at 352-233-9653 When meals are requested, volunteers are called upon who live close to the household in need. For this reason, the ministry could use more volunteer cooks who live in The Villages.

TLC “Veterans Helping Others” is an off-shoot of Trinity’s Barnabas chapter. The idea is to help others with simple tasks around the home that, because of physical challenges, they are unable to do. Examples would be a changing a light bulb where a ladder is needed, moving an appliance or sofa, etc. There are many others where a contractor is not needed but basic do-it-yourself skills will suffice. We need members of the congregation whom we can call on when a request is made. All tasks will be done by appointment at the convenience of the volunteer and a willingness and ability to perform the help desired. At least 2 people will be involved with all projects. This is a great way reach out to veterans and perform a service that will earn appreciation for Trinity. Please call Nick Bock at 352- 470-4577 or the church office at 352-307-4500 if you are willing to add your name to the list.

‘Because We Care’ Card Ministry: Please remember if you have anyone in need of a card for any reason please let Anna Gay know and a card will be sent. We send cards for Birthdays, (80 yrs, 85 yrs,, and 90 and over) and Anniversaries (50th, 60th, and over). Also to Shut-in’s, Get Well, Thinking of you, and Sympathy. If you know of a care giver who needs a word of encouragement please get those names to me. E-mail me at [email protected] -Anna M. Gay

PERFUME ALLERGIES/SENSITIVITIES: Did you know that some people are sensitive or allergic to strong scents? Strong aftershave and scented lotions can even cause asthma symptoms for some people. Please be sensitive to this and use perfumes lightly..

27 PRAYER CHAIN: When emailing a prayer request please send it to [email protected] This ensures that both pastors will see.

Special thanks to all for your prayers, cards, and calls about my stent procedure and recovery. I am on the mend and got a good report from the doctor. Blessings, Kitty Evans <><

FOR A CHUCKLE: A Judge asked a defendant, “Why did you steal the car?” “I had to get to work,” the defendant replied. “Why didn’t you take the bus?” I don’t have a driver’s license for the bus.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

Reasons for Thanksgiving

To have food enough and a place to dwell, To have work to do and do it well. To find the comfort when things go wrong In a bit of prayer or a snatch of song. To know the pleasure a kind act brings, To see the beauty in simple things. To know good books and share their worth, To plant bright flowers in rich brown earth. To have true friends…this is living, And reason enough for Thanksgiving.

29 YOU ARE IMPORTANT! Long Range Planning Congregation Survey Instructions

We are asking for your participation in our long range planning efforts by completing a survey of our congregation members. The survey will take between 5-10 minutes to complete. Questions ask for your opinions on our current ministries. Other questions ask for your specific feedback on new opportunities for ministry.

The survey can be completed electronically or via a hard copy. To complete online, simply go to www.trinitysummerfield.com and click the “Worship & Bible Study” tab. There will be instructions with a link to complete electronically. Or, Monday morning, if you are on our email list to receive the prayer chain, you will receive an email that contains the link to the “google form” that will allow you to fill out electronically. Alternatively, you can complete the printed hard copy of the survey. Extra copies are available in the Narthex on the table in the middle of the room. The table also has a box for placement of completed surveys.

The survey is completely anonymous. There is no place for your name and the electronic version is populated into Google forms with no reference to the person’s email address. Deadline for completed surveys is 12/01/19

(IF ABLE, PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY ONLINE AS IT MAKES THE COMPILATION OF RESULTS FASTER AND EASIER.)

Most questions are answered by giving your opinion on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being strongly disagree and 5 being strongly agree. Other questions seek your specific input, which is given by typing your answer in the space provided.

Please take a few moments and complete the survey. If your household has multiple members in it, we appreciate each member completing the survey.

SURVEY INSTRUCTIONS 1. Click on the link “Take Survey”. 2. Click “Next” to start survey. 3. Please proceed to answer questions on each page. 4. When finished with a page, select “Next” to go to the next page of questions. 5. You may skip questions if you wish. You may return to any skipped questions by selecting “Back” at the bottom of the page. To return to previous pages, please continue selecting “Back” until you reach your desired page. 6. When finished with the survey on the last page, please select “Submit” to complete the survey.

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE SURVEY.

31 Welcome to Trinity Lutheran Church 17330 South Highway 441 Summerfield, FL 34491 Church: 352-307-4500 /Toll Free: 1-877-832-2187 Website: www.trinitysummerfield.com Email: [email protected]

Christianity is the only religion of the world to insist that reconciliation with the creator cannot ever be accomplished by our performance. Only through the revelation of a Savior, who would be the substitute sacrifice for all of our wrongdoing and make us right with God, can we finally overcome our sense of separation from the Almighty.

This is a gift and promise of life that we rejoice in and share with Christians around the world. We share with all Christians the desire that everyone would come to know Jesus and experience a life under “new management” – the grace and purpose of God.

Trinity is a member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. We enjoy a blessed confessional heritage of Biblical Christianity with over 65 million Lutherans around the world and over 7 million Lutherans in the U.S. alone. What we know and believe comes only from the Bible, which is God’s inspired Word. While the Bible is certainly our guide for holy living, the primary purpose of the Bible is to reveal Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

We believe every Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church is a “little Easter”, a celebration of the resurrection of our Lord. We celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday in all worship services. We believe the forgiveness and strength of faith we are promised through receiving the very body and blood of Christ is so greatly needed by all of God’s people, for we are truly a community of wounded healers. For a Christian Church to be anything else than a place of common fellowship and unity and a source of strength for our fragile faith is to fail its God-ordained purpose and intent.

Our pastors would like to be of service to you in any way they can. Feel free to call the church office or speak with Pastor Dan or Pastor Blair directly if you wish to find out more about the church or have more personal needs of a spiritual nature.
