Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh HEAD OF SCHOOL HEBREW ACADEMY OF NASSAU COUNTY, WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY CREATING MAGIC IN YOUR SCHOOL Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh is an educator whose name has become familiar to Consortium members during the last few months. He wowed principals with his Creating “Magic” in Your School presentation at the 2019 CoJDS Think Tank, offered a compelling session on creating an action plan to PTI cohort members during their Fall 2019 semester, and enhanced the August 2019 Journal of Jewish Day School Leadership with an article entitled, Is Your School the Happiest Place on Earth? The avid interest in his message comes as no surprise to those who have known Rabbi Sadigh for years and have seen the implementation of his vision at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County-West Hempstead Campuses (hanc) where he serves as Head of School. Together with Mrs. Bar- bara Deutsch, hanc’s Associate Principal, and Rabbi Michael Merrill, the Assistant Principal of the Judaic Stud- ies Department, Rabbi Sadigh has created an environment at hanc where both students and staff can thrive. Rabbi Sadigh joined hanc eight years ago and was charged with growing the school and creating a school vision. He sought to create a culture that reflected the simple values combined with the rich emphasis on education found in the welcoming West Hempstead community to which the school belongs. Additionally, Rabbi Sadigh had always been intrigued by best practices that he experienced on a trip to Disneyland, and started attending seminars at the Walt Disney Company in order to learn The Business Behind the Magic. -

College Board’s AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award recognizes schools that are closing the gender gap and engaging more female students in computer science coursework in AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) and AP Computer Science A (AP CSA). Specifically, College Board is honoring schools who reached 50% or higher female representation in either of the two AP computer science courses in 2018, or whose percentage of the female examinees met or exceeded that of the school's female population in 2018. Out of more than 18,000 secondary schools worldwide that offer AP courses, only 685 have achieved this important result. Lowell Monke Breaking Down the Digital Walls One of the many issues debated in the World Summit preparatory discussions was whether or not a concept of "communication rights" should be endorsed by the Summit. This issue arises, of course, from the question of how Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be interpreted. The Article itself states that, "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers." When we put this Article into the framework of the digital divide discussion, it is clear that we must view these freedoms as positive ones; as the UK-based organization Article 19 notes, “the right to freedom of expression is recognized to include a positive element, placing an obligation on States to take positive measures …” (Article 19 2). The Summit’s Draft Declaration of Principles elaborates on the ways in which the rights identified in this Article must be supported: We recognize that young people are the future workforce and leading creators and earliest adopters of Information and Communication Technologies. -
