Super Kids-Super Sharing

Super Kids-Super Sharing is a Super Bowl community impact project that puts books, sports equipment and school supplies into the hands of local children and schools in need.

 The Super Kids-Super Sharing project has been implemented in Super Bowl host communities for the past fourteen years and has collected hundreds of thousands of books and pieces of sports equipment. Participating schools will ask their students to donate lightly used (or new) books, sports equipment and school supplies. School collections begin following the Christmas holiday break.

 This year, the NFL Environmental Program is teaming up with the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee, the Jets, the and local public and private schools for Super Kids-Super Sharing.

 For Super Bowl XLVIII two events will be held – one each in New York and . More than 150 schools in each state will be invited to participate as donors of books and sports equipment.

 The New Jersey collection/media event will be held on January 9, 2014 at Essex County College in Newark. Coordinators and several students from each participating school will be invited to drop off and help sort donated items. Representatives from the NFL, NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee, the Jets and the Giants will be on hand to greet and thank students and coordinators. Participants will also have an opportunity to enjoy the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee’s “Huddle Shuttle,” an interactive football display that gives them a chance to test their own football skills.

 Donated items are shared with low income schools in participating districts and with other programs that benefit local children in need.

 Community interest in this project has been strong and Super Kids-Super Sharing has grown each year.

 Participating schools are currently being recruited.

 A new feature this year is the addition of Verizon's “HopeLine” program to collect used cell phones. Proceeds from the collection will be donated to domestic violence prevention organizations and local shelters. These items will be collected as a part of Super Kids-Super Sharing.

 The NFL Environmental Program provides posters, flyer templates, instructions and other materials to make the project easy for schools to implement.

 Super Kids-Super Sharing is part of the NFL’s rapidly growing environmental initiative for Super Bowl. NFL Environmental evaluates the environmental impacts of Super Bowl activities and works with the local community to develop and implement cost-effective and sustainable projects to address them. This is accomplished through solid waste management, material reuse, food recovery, greenhouse gas reduction and tree plantings and other community projects.

 Schools interested in participating in Super Kids-Super Sharing should sign up at their earliest opportunity by contacting Susan Groh, Project Manager, NFL Environmental Program, at (401) 732-0342, (401) 952- 0885 cell or [email protected]
