MEDIA RELEASE J A N U A R Y 2 9 , 2 0 1 8 F O R I M M E D I A T E R ELEASE New England Region Volleyball Association Selects Molten USA as Official Volleyball Reno, NV– Molten USA, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the Official Volleyball of the New England Region Volleyball Association (NERVA). The new agreement went into effect January 1, 2018 and will continue through the end of 2022. As a non-profit region of USA Volleyball, NERVA creates opportunities for volleyball players to participate in official tournament play organized into Men’s, Women’s, Coed and Junior divisions. Under the terms of the new 5-year agreement, Molten will be the official volleyball for all NERVA sanctioned play; including Winterfest, the NERVA qualifier, the Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival and the Rhode Island Rumble. “Molten is delighted to work with NERVA and to serve the players and coaches that make up its membership,” said Molten USA President Melissa Dawson. “As the official ball of USA Volleyball, we have worked to provide the absolute best technology and highest quality products for every level of player in volleyball community, and we look forward to continuing this mission with NERVA.” “We’re very excited to partner with Molten,” said NERVA Commissioner Dave Peixoto. “Molten is a big name in the volleyball world and we believe that this relationship will help to increase the league’s reach as well as to grow the sport.” About the New England Region Volleyball Association NERVA is a region of USA Volleyball comprised of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. It has over 11,000 members and hosts more adult tournaments than any other region in the country. In 2018, NERVA’s adult component, Yankee Volleyball, will celebrate its 40th anniversary. Thomas A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics University of Washington 2012 Robert Breidenthal, Chair James Riley Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Aeronautics and Astronautics University of Washington Abstract A Parametric Analysis of the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Volleyballs in Turbulent Flow Hans J. Thomas Chair of Supervisory Committee: Professor Robert E. Breidenthal Aeronautics and Astronautics A wind tunnel experiment was conducted to compare the flight path characteristics and drag of current models of volleyballs. An open circuit low speed wind tunnel was primarily used to gather lift and drag data on multiple models of volleyballs in super-critical Reynolds number flows. The models tested were the Baden VX5E-01, Baden VX450C-230, Baden VX450-02, Mikasa MVA200, and Molten V5M5000. Analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between cavity dimensions on the balls and the lift and drag characteristics of the balls. Conditions were based on indoor volleyball conditions set by the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) with Reynolds numbers ranging from 2x10 5 to 4.3x10 5. Recommendations were provided for future designs of volleyballs to improve aerodynamic performance.
