Who we are Founded in 1890, Tennis Canada is a non-profit, national sport association responsible for leading the growth, promotion and showcasing of tennis in Canada. Tennis Canada owns and operates Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. In addition, Tennis Canada owns and operates eight professional ITF sanctioned events and financially supports 11 other professional tournaments in Canada. Tennis Canada also operates junior national training centres/programs and is a proud member of the International Tennis Federation, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the International Wheelchair Tennis Association, and serves to administer, sponsor and select the teams for Davis Cup, Fed Cup, the Olympic and Paralympic Games and all wheelchair, junior and senior national teams. What we are looking for Assistant, Communications (Summer Position – Possibility of becoming permanent in the Fall) Tennis Canada is seeking a communications specialist to join its team in promoting and protecting the national sport federation as well as Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, a world-class professional tennis event in Toronto. The successful candidate will possess formal education in a related field, positive employment history in communications and/or sport and show a high level of professionalism in a fast-paced environment. 1. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the communications department. 2. Writing and/or editing for the Tennis Canada and Rogers Cup (Toronto) websites. 3. Assist with content development, editing and coordination for Tennis Canada print and online publications (souvenir magazine, daily draw sheets, media guide, Rogers Cup Insider e-newsletter, Rogers Cup Fan Guide etc.). 4. Assist with the press operations for the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto. 5. As required, research and write media releases. 6. Assist with communications initiatives for Rogers Cup and other Tennis Canada national competitive events. 7. Media monitoring. A. Content Provider (English language) 1. Provide regular content for the Tennis Canada and Rogers Cup Toronto websites, including both results- based and feature stories. 2. Assist with the content and production of the Rogers Cup Insider electronic newsletter. 3. Assist in the production of Tennis Canada publications including Rogers Cup media guide, daily draw sheets, souvenir magazine, fan guide etc. 4. Research, write and edit media releases and advisories as required. B. Media Monitoring 1. Monitor, collect, distribute, and archive necessary media clips for historical purposes. 2. Update and maintain media distribution lists for Tennis Canada and Rogers Cup. C. Communications and Media Relations Initiatives 1. Assist with communications and media relations initiatives for Tennis Canada and Rogers Cup including: Media Accreditation Excellence Awards PR Activities Rogers Cup Hall of Fame Tennis Canada Wall of Champions Media Centre Grand Slam PR National College and University Championships Junior and Senior National Championships Corporate partnerships Volunteer staff Player Bios and Statistics Research for various communications initiatives D. Other 1. Activities as periodically assigned by members of the communications staff or senior management. Who you are Excellent written and oral communications skills; Completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications or a related field; Experience working in a sport or journalism environment; Organized time manager; Comfortable working unsupervised and in a team; Displays tact and upholds the ethical standards of professional communicators; Written and/or oral French an asset.
