Winter 2020 Line 21 Regional Projects Overview — Enbridge operates the Norman Wells Pipeline (Line 21), which carries crude oil 870 kilometres from Norman Wells, Northwest Territories to
Zama, Alberta, where it enters a third-party pipeline system and is Norman Wells Enbridge Pipelines (NW) Inc. sent on to Edmonton. — Norman Wells Little Smith Creek is a meandering stream that drains westwards into the Mackenzie River. Slope movement was first observed in 1992 following a large flood event. A monitoring program was put in place to watch for any instability of the valley slope that could encroach into the Line 21 right-of-way (ROW). Tulita What’s the latest? Little Smith Creek KP 158 • In early 2019, Enbridge observed slope instability due to erosion and groundwater seepage along the outside bend of the Little Smith Creek. • As a result, Enbridge will be conducting preventative maintenance work on a 500 m segment of Line 21 near Little Smith Creek. • A Traditional Knowledge Study and environmental surveys were conducted with the assistance of community NORTHWEST members and Elders.
