Spread the word to other former ACS employees — and don’t delay, because any money that’s not claimed by Sept. 1 will go back to ACS. The suit, Bell et al. v. Affiliated Computer Services Inc., ACS Commercial Solutions Inc., and Livebridge Inc., was filed in December 2009 by four ACS employees. ACS settled on July 12. The employees said ACS had required them to be at work with- out a computer workstation avail- able on which to clock in, and that the company’s manual time cor- rection forms didn’t capture all work time. They also said ACS didn’t pay employees all the bonuses they earned and didn’t correctly calculate overtime pay. In the settlement agreement, ACS said it denies the plantiffs’ allegations, but it agreed to a set- tlement because of the expense of defending against them. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

SEATTLE MARINERS NEWS CLIPS February 26, 2011 Smoak’s days of being a surprise about over Posted on February 25, 2011 by John Hickey SportsPressNW.com PEORIA, AZ – At this time last year, Justin Smoak was working out about 10 miles down the road in the Texas Rangers’ spring training camp in Surprise. And there were not going to be any surprises in his Surprise sojourn. He was coming off his first full year in the Texas organization, he’d only played 54 games at Triple-A and the Rangers’ offense seemed set. So in the first week of March, he was reassigned to the club’s minor league organization and he prepared for a full season at Triple-A. Then the surprises started happening, and they’ve never really stopped. Three weeks into the season, the Rangers found themselves in need of a left-hander with power who could play first base. On April 23, Smoak, a switch-hitter with most of his power from the left side, was called up. He struggled a bit, but he was basically a regular in the lineup of a team in first place in the American League West. He played 70 games for the Rangers, hit .209 and hit eight homers in 235 at-bats. Just when it seemed the April surprise might lead to a date in the postseason, fate jumped up and smacked Smoak again on July 9. The Rangers sent him and three Texas minor leaguers – pitchers Josh Lueke and Blake Beavan and infielder Matt Lawson — to Seattle with the Mariners surrendering pitchers Cliff Lee and Mark Lowe in return.

  • A's News Clips, Friday, June 18, 2010 Oakland A's Bullpen Lets Dallas Braden Down in Late Loss to Chicago Cubs by Joe Stiglich
A’s News Clips, Friday, June 18, 2010 Oakland A's bullpen lets Dallas Braden down in late loss to Chicago Cubs By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune Dallas Braden was lined up for a well-deserved win, and the A's were poised to leave the Windy City with a series victory. That script never played out on a picturesque Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Oakland's bullpen laid an egg in the late innings, and Kosuke Fukudome's walk-off RBI single off Jerry Blevins in the bottom of the ninth gave the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 victory in front of 36,942 fans. "That's a tough way to lose," A's second baseman Mark Ellis said. "Give (the Cubs) credit. They had some good at-bats there at the end." This one had to sting on several fronts for the A's. They could have carried some momentum into St. Louis as they begin a challenging weekend series against the Cardinals tonight. Instead, they watched the Cubs win their first series since taking two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 25-27. Oakland also spoiled an excellent start from Braden, who threw six innings of one-run ball and left with a lead but still hasn't found the win column since his May 9 perfect game. "Dallas pitched so hard. He gave us a chance," manager Bob Geren said. With the first-place Texas Rangers gathering steam, the A's have lost 11 of their past 16 and are a season-high six games out in the American League West.
