SWEET SIX-CESS: MARINERS COMBINED NO-HITTER NOTES

MARINERS COMBINED NO-HITTER: • Six Seattle Mariners pitchers combined to no-hit the in a 1-0 victory June 8 at Safeco Field for the 10th combined no-hitter in History.

• Kevin Millwood (6.0 IP), Charlie Furbush (0.2 IP), Stephen Pryor (0.1 IP), Brandon League (0.2 IP) and Tom Wilhelmsen (1.0 IP) each had a hand in tying the MLB record for most pitchers used in a no-hitter…the half-dozen pitchers used matched the mark set by the 2003 Astros, who also used six in an interleague no-hitter on June 11, 2003 against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. • Mariners No-Hitters – Was the third no-hitter in Mariners history, joining Randy Johnson (June 2, 1990 vs. Detroit) and Chris Bosio (April 22, 1993 vs. Boston). Mariners No-Hitters (3): 6/2/90 – Randy Johnson vs. Detroit (2-0) 4/22/94 – Chris Bosio vs. Boston (7-0) 6/8/12 – Kevin Millwood, Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League, Tom Wilhelmsen – vs. LA Dodgers (1-0)

• Best Record in Baseball No-Hit – Marked the fourth time since 1900 that the team that entered the day with the best record in baseball was no-hit (minimum 50 games into the season). The Dodgers were the fi rst since the June 11, 1990 when the Oakland Athletics were no-hit by Nolan Ryan and the . (Elias Sports Bureau)

• Kevin Millwood threw 6.0 no-hit innings before leaving with a mild right groin strain…Millwood, who threw a no-hitter April 27, 2003 with Philadelphia against San Francisco, is the fourth pitcher to throw a complete-game no-hitter and be part of a combined no-hitter, joining , Mike Witt and Kent Mercker. (Elias Sports Bureau)

• Interleague No-Hitters – Was the 6th no-hitter in Interleague play (since 1997), and fi rst since Edwin Jackson for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays.

• Oh-No & No-No - Seattle is only the second team since 1992 to have a no-hitter thrown against them and throw a no-hitter in the same season (Philip Humber perfect game April 21)…Tampa Bay also turned this daily double in 2010…Dallas Braden and Edwin Jackson threw no-hitters against the Rays and Matt Garza threw one for them...the Mariners join the 2010 Rays as the only two teams in the modern era (since 1901) to have a perfect game thrown against them, and throw a no-hitter in the same season. The only other time it has happened was in 1880 (per Larry Stone, Seattle Times).

• Jesus Montero, at 22 years, 193 days, became the 7th-youngest player to catch a no-hitter since 1900…he became the youngest since current Mariners Special Assistant to the GM Ted Simmons (22 years, 5 days old) caught Bob Gibson’s gem for St. Louis at Pittsburgh on Aug. 14, 1971. (Elias Sports Bureau)

• Rare Stuff: Since the last combined no-hitter in the Majors (June 11, 2003) there have been fi ve (5) perfect games thrown, including one versus the Mariners this season. While there have been 21 perfect games in MLB history, there have only been 10 combined no-hitters.

• Stephen Pryor collected the win in the no-hitter his fi rst MLB win…he is the third pitcher in MLB history (since 1901) to collect his fi rst MLB win in a no-hitter, joining Bobo Holloman (May 6, 1953 w/St. Louis Browns (AL) vs. Philadelphia A’s) & Wilson Alvarez (April 11, 1991 w/Chicago White Sox at ).
