I'm just going to review this first volume instead of adding every single one, though I've read the entire series and it only gets better. One of the great epics of our time. Totally irreverent and creatively blasphemous. Incest, angel sex, astral drugs, divine tattoos, a psychotic God, aborted tentacle-babies, apocalyptic battles, sword magic, nuns Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 uzis View 1 comment. I shall give you the most exquisite nightmare. This review is for the series, volumes This series was quite a ride. I can't believe Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 didn't make it a point to finish it sooner, having only made it to volume 11 years ago. Well, I rounded up the rest of the volumes and buckled down and now I'm done. First, here's a picture I drew of Kira a long time ago. He's one of my favorite characters, which I shall give you the most exquisite nightmare. He's one of my favorite characters, which should be Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 since he's Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 dark and tall and a delinquent and has a scar in the shape of a bloodstain. Oh, and he's totally hot. Your face… your hair… your body… your blood… Must I tear you apart over and over again? Setsuna Mudo, an idiot boy in love with his sister, is the latest reincarnation of Organic Angel Alexiel. He and his friends get caught up in the war between Heaven and Hell, with their connections to each running deeper than they ever could have dreamed. Unfortunately, Setsuna is the most annoying boy on heaven and earth. And hell. He's Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 there, too. He's always yelling rude things at people, even when he loves them and they're dying. And he's fond of telling bad guys he'll never forgive them for this or that. Like the bad guys even care! They're evil angels with epic agendas, after all. The seven vices I love. Envy, destruction, affliction, captivity, famine, chaos, ruin. They are all sweet poison. Born from my mouth. However, I do love several of the other characters. Like Kira. And Lucifer duh. Even Alexiel, while not given much screen time, is pretty awesome. Everyone loves and hates each other, making for quite the monstrous love web. The angels are not completely good and the demons But sometimes in a fun way. It's no mystery why I like Zaphikel, is it? I mean, that long hair and that priest outfit Live as you want. You are never alone. The storyline is pretty awesome. It's suitably biblical while also being inventive. Angels are warriors, technology is spliced with organic matter, love is forbidden, motives are often unclear, and God is view spoiler [a motherfucking crazy asshole, but that's not actually a surprise hide spoiler ]. The above picture is of Kira and Kato. Oh, and Setsuna's there on the bottom. Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 teared up at the end. No tears actually fell, but they were there, in my eyes. In the afterword, the author mentioned that she'd written an Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 ending that she decided not to use. I wish I could read it! Review for complete series No matter how hard he tries, Setsuna always manages to run into trouble, and his love for his sister is just one of many things that seem to be going wrong. It is only when two demons appear and make his life an even bigger mess that Setsuna comes to realise all his misfortunes might be linked Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 the fallen angel Alexiel. I would definitely consider Angel Sanctuary a great and classic manga. But for all that, I am sure it does not appeal to everyone. In addition to the incestuous relationship between Setsuna and his sister Sara, there are drugs and alcohol, gruesome murders and mutilations, rape, child murder, a twisted view on religion and god, suicide, characters whose minds turn grotesque and obsessive - the list goes on. These are subjects that might be very appealing to some, but also very problematic for others. Angel Sanctuary, Vol. 1 by Kaori Yuki Appearing as a serial in the Japanese manga magazine Hana to Yume from the 5 July issue to the Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 October issue, it follows Setsuna Mudo, a human teenager who, as the reincarnation of a prominent angel who rebelled against Heaven, becomes entangled in political machinations between the angels and demons. The chapters were collected and published in twenty bound volumes by Hakusensha from February to February Titled Coming of the Seraphim in the early stages of its development, Angel Sanctuary was inspired by the Japanese fantasy novel Nocturne and was originally slated to be only ten chapters long, which led Yuki to worry about being able to properly end the story. Angel Sanctuary made cultural references to various mythologies, including Greek and Norseas well as to Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 people, music, literature, and places. Angel Sanctuary was also adapted into a series of drama CDspublished from December to Septemberand a three-episode original video animation OVA by Bandai Visual and Hal Film Maker published in ; Yuki assisted on various aspects of both adaptations. Angel Sanctuary was critically and commercially well-received by English-language readers and critics, with Yuki's art and narrative highlighted as its strengths. The OVA received more mixed reviews from critics, who were generally divided on whether they enjoyed it as an introduction to the events of the manga or found its content objectionable due Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 the sibling incest. Beginning in Japan inAngel Sanctuary focuses on Setsuna Mudoa year-old troubled high-school student in love with his year-old sister Sara. While struggling with his Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 feelings, he learns that he is the reincarnation of Organic Angel Alexielwho led a rebellion against her fellow angels after witnessing their slaughter of the Evils, a group of demons, after God's disappearance. At the conclusion of the revolt, she sealed away her younger twin brother, Inorganic Angel Rosielwithin the Earth, emotionally unable to fulfill his request to be killed before he became insane and destructive. Captured and branded a fallen angelAlexiel was punished by having her body frozen and her soul endlessly reincarnated as a human whose life is full of misery. While Rosiel is freed by his subordinate KatanSetsuna finds his life and Sara's endangered by various attempts to awaken Alexiel's dormant soul within him. Realizing they cannot bear to be separated, Setsuna and Sara run away together and consummate their love, hoping to start a new life together. Sara eventually dies Angel Sanctuary: v. 1 him from one of Rosiel's subordinates, and devastated, Setsuna awakens Alexiel's soul, causing widespread damage. Adam Kadamon, the angel closest to God, intervenes by turning back time to just after Alexiel's awakening and freezing time on Earth; she then tasks him with freeing her from her imprisonment. To search for Sara's soul, sent to Hell for incest, Setsuna's body enters a near-death state.

    Angel Sanctuary, A Continuation… Written by Minako Takahashi Angel Sanctuary, a series about the end of the world by Yuki Kaori, has entered the Setsuna final chapter. It is appropriately titled "Heaven" in the recent issue of Hana to Yume. However, what makes Angel Sanctuary unique from other end-of-the-world genre stories is that it does not have a clear-cut distinction between good and evil. It also displays a variety of worldviews with a distinct and unique cast of characters that, for fans of Yuki Kaori, are quintessential Yuki Kaori characters. With the beginning of the new chapter, many questions and motives from the earlier chapters are answered, but many more new ones arise as readers take the plunge and speculate on the series and its end. In the "Hades" chapter, Setsuna goes to the Underworld to bring back Sara's soul, much like the way Orpheus went into Hades to seek the soul of his love, Eurydice. Although things seem to end much like that ancient tale at the end of the chapter, the readers are not left without hope for a resolution. While back in Heaven, Rociel returns and thereby begins the political struggle between himself and the regime of Sevothtarte and Metatron that replaced Rociel while he was sealed beneath the earth. However the focus of the story shifts from the main characters to two side characters, Katou and Tiara. Katou was a dropout at Setsuna's school who was killed by Setsuna when he was possessed by Rociel. He is sent to kill Setsuna in order for him to go to Heaven.

The female characters in the underground include the Duchess, the Cook, the Queen of Red Hearts and Alice. They all display clear features which are atypical of the popular ideal woman image of the Victorian society---“the angel in the house”, like obedience, self-sacrifice, passiveness and gentleness. On the contrary, those adult females show madness and violence in their separate roles, while Alice the little girl displays autonomy, independence and aggression in her fantasy quest. By subverting the ideal woman image, Carroll gives expression to the repressed feelings of the woman in his society. According to Mom, she was bathing Angel after she returned home from a visitation with Daddy and Angel complained that “it hurt” around her genital area. Mom said she became concerned and questioned Angel about her complaint. She said Angel told her that she and Daddy had a “secret” that Daddy “rubbed” against her and made her hurt. Mom called the family physician, Dr. Kildare, and reported this to him. Dr. Kildare saw Angel and her mother that night at the emergency room at the local hospital. The hospital records regarding the emergency room visit contain an entry in the nurse’s notes from the now deceased Nurse Crockett indicating Angel told her “Mommy hurt me” when asked why she was at the hospital. Angel later told Dr. Kildare about the “secret” she and her Daddy had after Mom promised Angel a new doll and some ice cream. Then Dr. Kildare examined Angel and found redness and swelling in Angel’s genital area. Dr. Kildare concluded that “Angel had been sexually abused by Daddy.” He recommended that Angel be seen by a child psychologist, Dr. Feelgood. Dr. Feelgood saw Angel the following week. After interviewing, testing, and evaluating Angel he arrived at the opinion that “Angel showed no symptoms or indications of having been sexually abused.” Mom filed an action to terminate Daddy’s visitation privileges. The court, sua sponte, ordered Mom and Dad to undergo evaluations by Dr. Marcus Welby, a psychiatrist.
