Families Use Heelys to Stay in Shape CARROLLTON, TX (November 6, 2012)…Every year students across the nation sit for hours at school and come home to sit again in front of TVs, computers and video game devices. Many parents wonder what they can do to help their children stay physically fit, particularly since health organizations, like the American Heart Association, are reporting one in three children are already obese or overweight. Dad of Divas writer Chris Lewis says one of the ways he and his daughter stay fit is by Heeling in the park as a family. Heeling is the process of skating with Heelys, the popular “wheel-in-the-heel” skate shoe created by Heelys, Inc. (NASDAQ: HLYS). “I enjoy taking my daughter Heeling, to be able to have time with her and engage with her. It’s all about getting out and getting active together. It’s not only good for the kids, but also for you,” said Lewis.” You work a lot of muscle groups you don’t often use, so it’s a great way to exercise.” Lewis adds that his daughter, eight-year-old Diva J, got her first pair of Heelys about a year ago and is a natural Heeler. He joined her about six months ago, and she’s been helping him learn ever since. “It’ll put you through your paces in the beginning, when you’re learning how to balance. But once you get that down, it’s a little easier. She’s much better at it than I am, but she doesn’t mind. She’s happy because we’re spending time with each other doing something she enjoys,” explained Lewis. Jinger Olinselot, writer of Jingerrific, agrees with that sentiment. She and her son, Luke, go Heeling together on a regular basis, an activity that has brought them closer as a family and helps keep them in better shape. “My Heelys represent the way I like to parent. Go have fun and you’ll be healthier,” said Olinselot. “Heeling helps you stay fit because you’re not focused on the exercise that you’re getting from it. You’re focused on the fun.” Olinselot got her first pair of Heelys about two years ago, and quickly began Heeling anywhere she could find a smooth surface. A year or so after that, Luke tried on a pair and was hooked. Now the duo goes Heeling just about everywhere – the skate park, the grocery store, even on vacation. “Heeling is special to me and Luke. It brings us closer, keeps us in shape, and it builds confidence and coordination. Our Heelys bring us so many great things,” said Olinselot. Heelys, Inc. is a company founded on innovation. It designs, markets and distributes its action sports- oriented products to the youth market under the Heelys (R) brand. The company's primary product, Heelys wheeled footwear, is a patented dual-purpose skate shoe that incorporates a stealth, removable wheel in the heel. The company also offers Heelys HX2, which uses two wheels for better balance and control, making it ideal for younger users. Heelys' third offering, Nano, ramps up the Heelys experience by giving skaters a board that links into the patented Heelys shoe bracket. This allows them to skate farther, faster and longer than ever before.
