Riders who have ever competed as a team member of any Senior International Team (4* or 5* Nations Cup in the last 10 years, World, European Championships and Olympic Games) are not eligible. Judged in accordance with Rule 506. Starting height of fences in first round 1.10m. In the event of a shortfall of entries in the final, additional qualifiers will be taken from this class until the number of 24 is made up for the final (see rule 506.5). No competitor may ride more than two horses in the final. One of the goals was also to examine the current status of equestrian tourism in Finland, as well as the use of the Finn- horse in equestrian tourism services. Improvement suggestions were created based on research about Irish equestrian tourism as well as the Irish Draught Horse and the Irish Sport Horse. There was no commissioner for the thesis. The topic arose from personal interest in equestrian tourism and the growing importance of the Finnhorse as part of the industry. The first part of the thesis comprises the theoretical background. It includes different aspects of eques- trian tourism in Finland and in Ireland. The current status of equestrian tourism in Finland and the safety guidelines created by the Finnish Consumer Agency are discussed in detail. The history, current status, and different usages of the Finnhorse are discussed. Also the Irish Draught Horse and the Irish Sport Horse as Irish horse breeds are elaborated. The second part is the empirical part. It gives suggestions for improving equestrian tourism in Finland and increasing the use of the Finnhorse in tourism related services. The suggestions are based on strat- egies and actions implemented by different organizations in Ireland.

    By Molly Sorge Photography Jump Media LLC The puissance is the very essence of show jumping boiled down to one class — how high can your horse jump? “It’s the roots of the sport,” explained McLain Ward, two- time Olympic team gold medalist. “In the past, it was often the most important class of the show, especially in the 1950s and ‘60s. When the grand prix started to become the premier event in the ‘70s, and through the ‘70s and early ‘80s, the puissance often had as much prize money, if not more than the grand prix.” The puissance class takes place over a maximum of five rounds, with the first round consisting of four-to-six large single obstacles, including the puissance wall, which is traditionally a solid wall built of wooden boxes painted to look like stone or brick. The puissance differs from the high jump, which is an obstacle of angled poles rather than a solid vertical wall. The puissance wall starts at 4-foot, 6-inches and is raised after each round. The other jumps on the course are also gradually removed as the rounds go on, until there are only two jumps — an oxer and the puissance wall. Riders who jump the wall clean progress to the next round and the horse-and-rider combination clearing the wall at the greatest height wins. In the event that multiple horses have cleared the wall in the fifth round, the riders share first prize, unless they want to continue and challenge the world record. In recent years, the popularity of the puissance class has faded a bit, as the grand prix class has become the highlight of most show schedules.

Assessing Color and Breed In model horse competitions, the goal is to faithfully recreate the equestrian world in miniature. It is what exhibitors strive to do and what judges consider when evaluating a table of entries. One aspect of that evaluation is whether the color of the model is realistic. In order to assess this, a judge must be able to distinguish between visually similar (but often geneti- cally distinct) colors and patterns and determine whether or not the color depicted on the model is suitable for the breed the entrant has assigned. This task is complicated by the fact that many participants—who are at heart collectors as well as competitors—are attracted to pieces that are unique or unusual. So how does a judge determine which colors are legitimate for a particular breed and which are questionable or outright unrealistic? When it comes to the range of colors within each breed, there are three basic considerations. Breeds are limited by the genes present in the population (what is possible), by any restrictions placed by their registry (what is permissible), and by what is counted as a fault in breed competitions (what is penalized).

The objective of this study was to describe the relationships between musculoskeletal disorders and linear and angular limb measurements acquired from photographs of horses with markers at specific reference points. These data could possibly provide indicators for better selection of jumpers with less risk of developing orthopedic disorders.
