(June 15, 2014) – On Sunday, July 20th some of golf’s finest young athletes will arrive at Pine Canyon, a luxury golf community located in the heart of Flagstaff, to compete in the 48th Annual Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. Although its present history dates only from 1967, the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship's roots make it one of the oldest amateur golf competitions in American history. Athletes competing in this tournament are among the elite and are asked to participate by invitation only. “Our Championship takes pride in the strength of the field we invite to compete, ” stated Drew Woods, President of the Pacific Coast Golf Association (PCGA). There is no doubt Pine Canyon Club will be a challenging, yet fair, test of golf for all participants in this year’s Championship and we couldn’t be more excited for the 48th installment of the Pacific Coast Amateur to visit Flagstaff this July." Events at Pine Canyon will commence with a Players Welcome Barbecue on Monday, July 21. For the next four days, 84 golfers hailing from 15 Pacific Rim golf associations will compete individually over 72 holes. The final round of play will be held on July 25 and the champion will be announced that day. “We look forward to introducing our course to some of the sport’s most exceptional athletes,” said Travis Laudner, director of golf at Pine Canyon.
