(June 15, 2014) – On Sunday, July 20th some of golf’s finest young athletes will arrive at Pine Canyon, a luxury golf community located in the heart of Flagstaff, to compete in the 48th Annual Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. Although its present history dates only from 1967, the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship's roots make it one of the oldest amateur golf competitions in American history. Athletes competing in this tournament are among the elite and are asked to participate by invitation only. “Our Championship takes pride in the strength of the field we invite to compete, ” stated Drew Woods, President of the Pacific Coast Golf Association (PCGA). There is no doubt Pine Canyon Club will be a challenging, yet fair, test of golf for all participants in this year’s Championship and we couldn’t be more excited for the 48th installment of the Pacific Coast Amateur to visit Flagstaff this July." Events at Pine Canyon will commence with a Players Welcome Barbecue on Monday, July 21. For the next four days, 84 golfers hailing from 15 Pacific Rim golf associations will compete individually over 72 holes. The final round of play will be held on July 25 and the champion will be announced that day. “We look forward to introducing our course to some of the sport’s most exceptional athletes,” said Travis Laudner, director of golf at Pine Canyon. “During four days of play, we are certain that each round on this dynamic course will provide participants a new experience.” Designed by renowned course architect Jay Morrish, Pine Canyon’s 19-hole championship golf course has been consistently recognized as one of the top private golf courses by Golfweek, Golf Digest and Travel & Leisure Golf. It has been lauded as one of Arizona high country's most challenging courses, offering picturesque mountain scenery, exquisite layout that boasts impeccable greens and broad fairways, and numerous ponds and trout-stocked lakes strategically placed across the rolling fairways. About Pine Canyon Located adjacent to the Coconino National Forest, Pine Canyon is a 600+-acre, private, luxury golf course community in the high country of Flagstaff, Arizona. In addition to its 18- hole championship golf course, Pine Canyon boasts stunning views of the San Francisco Peaks, an award-winning 35,000-square-foot clubhouse, a second expansive recreation-focused amenity building, and a number of other family-oriented offerings. Real estate options at Pine Canyon include detached mountain cabins, paired homes, townhome trios and custom estate homes and homesites. For more information on Pine Canyon call 866.779.5700 or visit http://www.pinecanyon.net/. Pine Canyon is a development of The True Life Companies, a strategic real estate investment and management firm composed of top-tier professionals with over 200 years of combined industry experience in all facets of real estate acquisitions, development, management and homebuilding. About the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship The first Pacific Coast Amateur Championship was held on the links of San Francisco Golf Club at The Presidio, April 24-27, 1901. Championships were held annually through 1911, all being conducted in California except for the 1909 championship, which was held at Seattle Golf Club in Washington. The Pacific Coast Amateur then ceased to exist, only to be reconstituted at Seattle Golf Club on August 10-12, 1967 with the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, Southern California, Oregon and Arizona golf associations participating. Today, 15 member Pacific Rim golf associations comprise the Pacific Coast Golf Association. I T E 1111 E L E v E N ~ MIAMI BEACH City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida 33139, www.miomibeochH.gov COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM TO: Finance and Citywide Projects Committee Members FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: April19, 2012 SUBJECT DISCUSSION OF THE CURRENT MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS OF THE CITY'S MIAMI BEACH GOLF COURSES, CLUBHOUSES AND RELATED FACILITIES AND OPTIONS/DIRECTION FOR THE FUTURE MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT INTRODUCTION This matter was referred by the Mayor and Members of the City Commission to the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee at the February 8, 2012 Commission meeting. On September 5, 2007, a new management agreement with PCM for the management and operations of the City's Miami Beach Golf Club (including the Par 3 golf course) and the Normandy Shores Golf Club, was approved by the City of Miami Beach Commission. This agreement commenced on October 1, 2007 and is due to expire on September 30, 2012. The Administration is seeking direction from the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee on options for the on-going management and operations of the City's Golf Courses, Clubhouses and Related Facilities. BACKGROUND In the late 1990's the City Commission made a decision to focus the resources necessary to renovate and substantially improve the City's golf courses, clubhouses and facilities. At that time the City Commission made the decision that the Miami Beach Golf Course (formally the Bayshore golf course) would be renovated into a high quality tourist destination that would also serve our residents, and the Normandy Shores course would be renovated as a high quality resident golf course with a price sensitive fee structure that gave our residents another high quality, but lower priced, golfing option.
