Learn More About the MOTJ (PDF)
MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE JERUSALEMO A SIMON TWIESENTHAL CENTERJ MUSEUM BECOME A PARTNER IN CREATION For 2,000 years, the Jewish people have yearned to return to their Promised Land. Wherever they were, they always faced East in their prayers, never giving up hope that one day they or their progeny would return. They were proud to drink wine or have a charity box in their home from the Land of Israel. In May of 1948, their collective dreams were finally realized when David Ben-Gurion announced to the world the creation of the State of Israel. At this historic moment, 71 years later, the Simon Wiesenthal Center is in the final stages of building its Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem – MOTJ – in the heart of the city center. The MOTJ is within walking distance to the Old City and the Western Wall. It is a few blocks from the King David and Waldorf Astoria hotels, two blocks from Ben Yehuda Street, around the corner from the Mamilla shopping mall and in close proximity to the American Embassy, the Knesset, Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister and President’s residences. World leaders and dignitaries who come to Jerusalem will visit the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem for years to come. Rabbi Marvin Hier To accomplish our goal, we are looking to partner with philanthropists and visionaries from the United States and around the world who will support this once-in-a-lifetime project. Donors to the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem will have the additional privilege of linking their name in perpetuity in the center of Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish people. -

Ignoramus Et Ignorabimus: German Sociologist Peter Ullrich Will Never Know If Left-Wing Antisemitism Really Exists
Ignoramus et ignorabimus: German sociologist Peter Ullrich will never know if left-wing antisemitism really exists The Times of Israel, October 16, 2013 The Center for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA) at Technical University in Berlin has generated a long list of controversies in recent years, take the views of its former head Wolfgang Benz for example. In 2011 he was followed by historian Stefanie Schueler-Springorum, a newcomer in the field of research on antisemitism. On November 8–9, 2013, Schueler-Springorum, the Jewish Museum Berlin, and the foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future (EVZ) will hold an international conference dedicated to antisemitism in Europe today. Among many very troubling speakers at this event, one new German voice will be heard: Peter Ullrich. Ullrich, born 1976, is a sociologist, and recently employed as a co-worker in a project of the Center for Research on Antisemitism (ZfA). In October 2013, he published a book (in German) by well-known publishing house Wallstein dedicated to the analysis of left-wing antisemitism, Germans, Israel, Palestine, and remembrance of the Holocaust. In his book, Peter Ullrich attacks political scientist Samuel Salzborn (born 1977), who is a professor at Goettingen University, and historian Sebastian Voigt, for their criticism of left-wing antisemitism. In 2011, Salzborn and Voigt published an article about troubling tendencies in the party of the Left in Germany, Die Linke. For example, two Members of Parliament and one former Member of Parliament, Inge Höger, Annette Groth, and Norman Paech, respectively, were on the Mavi Marmara in May 2010. This terror vessel was part of the so-called Gaza Flotilla, dedicated to ending the blockade of the Hamas-ruled Gaza strip and to destabilizing Israel. -

ENGLISH Original: RUSSIAN Delegation of the Russian Federation
PC.DEL/91/17 27 January 2017 ENGLISH Original: RUSSIAN Delegation of the Russian Federation STATEMENT BY MR. ALEXANDER LUKASHEVICH, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION, AT THE 1129th MEETING OF THE OSCE PERMANENT COUNCIL 26 January 2017 In response to the statement by the representative of Ukraine on the Holocaust Mr. Chairperson, I should like first of all to recall once again that the unconstitutional revolution in 2014 brought forces to power in Ukraine that are openly tolerant of extremely radical opinions. Today in that country we are witnessing the rapid growth of extremist and ultranationalist sentiments. Racist, anti-Semitic and nationalistic slogans are openly proclaimed. The authorities in Kyiv continue to legitimize Nazi ideology and to whitewash Nazis and their accomplices. The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UIA) and their leaders Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych are being rehabilitated. It should be recalled that during the Second World War the OUN and UIA were responsible for the mass killing of Jews and thousands of Soviet civilians and partisans. The Ukrainian Government is also conducting a deliberate policy of rehabilitating the criminal members of the Galicia Waffen-SS Volunteer Division. The Ukrainians who joined it swore “steadfast allegiance and obedience” to the Wehrmacht and Adolf Hitler. It is interesting to note that provisions prohibiting the condoning of the crimes of fascism and the Waffen-SS and those who collaborated with them during the fascist occupation were removed from Ukrainian legislation in 2015. Actions such as these are incompatible with statements about adherence to democracy and European values. -
Eichmann and the Grand Mufti
Jewish Political Studies Review Review Article 22(Spring 2010)1-2 Updated Webversion 5-2010 Nazis on the Run Tripartite Networks in Europe, the Middle East and America Gerald Steinacher, a historian from the West Austrian town of Innsbruck, is known for his solid re- search on the federal state of Tyrol under the Third Reich. His new book reconstructs how Nazis fled from Europe via Italy to South America after the end of World War II. The author also claims that his research proves that stories about a secret organization of former SS members are nothing more than a myth. According to this thesis, ODESSA, the Organisation Der Ehemaligen SS Angehörigen (Organi- zation of Former SS Members), did not exist. Before dealing with this finding in the context of the Middle East, an overview of the book is in order. Steinacher first discusses the southern escape route via Rome to Genoa and other Italian towns. He then explores the mechanism of obtaining a new identity through Red Cross papers, and details how Vatican circles provided assistance. The reader learns all about the “Rat Run” from Germany through Italy and finally to the safe haven of Argentina. Italy, Steinacher notes, was Europe’s backyard. But it was also, like Spain and Portugal, the Middle East’s front yard. Weltecho, Simon Wiesenthal 1947, 63 1946: On the hunt for Eichmann and the Grand Mufti Three major organizations helped the Nazis escape from Europe. The Catholic Church believed this ef- fort would contribute to the “re-Christianization” of Europe and feared the threat to Europe of paga- nism and communism. -

Expelled Nazis Paid Millions in Social Security
Expelled Nazis paid millions in Social Security By DAVID RISING, RANDY HERSCHAFT and RICHARD LARDNEROctober 19, 2014 9:17 PM OSIJEK, Croatia (AP) — Former Auschwitz guard Jakob Denzinger lived the American dream. His plastics company in the Rust Belt town of Akron, Ohio, thrived. By the late 1980s, he had acquired the trappings of success: a Cadillac DeVille and a Lincoln Town Car, a lakefront home, investments in oil and real estate. Then the Nazi hunters showed up. In 1989, as the U.S. government prepared to strip him of his citizenship, Denzinger packed a pair of suitcases and fled to Germany. Denzinger later settled in this pleasant town on the Drava River, where he lives comfortably, courtesy of U.S. taxpayers. He collects a Social Security payment of about $1,500 each month, nearly twice the take-home pay of an average Croatian worker. Denzinger, 90, is among dozens of suspected Nazi war criminals and SS guards who collected millions of dollars in Social Security payments after being forced out of the United States, an Associated Press investigation found. The payments flowed through a legal loophole that has given the U.S. Justice Department leverage to persuade Nazi suspects to leave. If they agreed to go, or simply fled before deportation, they could keep their Social Security, according to interviews and internal government records. Like Denzinger, many lied about their Nazi pasts to get into the U.S. following World War II, and eventually became American citizens. Among those who benefited: —armed SS troops who guarded the Nazi network of camps where millions of Jews perished. -
'Owned' Vatican Guilt for the Church's Role in the Holocaust?
Studies in Christian-Jewish Relations Volume 4 (2009): Madigan CP 1-18 CONFERENCE PROCEEDING Has the Papacy ‘Owned’ Vatican Guilt for the Church’s Role in the Holocaust? Kevin Madigan Harvard Divinity School Plenary presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Council of Centers on Christian-Jewish Relations November 1, 2009, Florida State University, Boca Raton, Florida Given my reflections in this presentation, it is perhaps appropriate to begin with a confession. What I have written on the subject of the papacy and the Shoah in the past was marked by a confidence and even self-righteousness that I now find embarrassing and even appalling. (Incidentally, this observation about self-righteousness would apply all the more, I am afraid, to those defenders of the wartime pope.) In any case, I will try and smother those unfortunate qualities in my presentation. Let me hasten to underline that, by and large, I do not wish to retract conclusions I have reached, which, in preparation for this presentation, have not essentially changed. But I have come to perceive much more clearly the need for humility in rendering judgment, even harsh judgment, on the Catholic actors, especially the leading Catholic actors of the period. As José Sanchez, with whose conclusions in his book on understanding the controversy surrounding the wartime pope I otherwise largely disagree, has rightly pointed out, “it is easy to second guess after the events.”1 This somewhat uninflected observation means, I take it, that, in the case of the Holy See and the Holocaust, the calculus of whether to speak or to act was reached in the cauldron of a savage world war, wrought in the matrix of competing interests and complicated by uncertainty as to whether acting or speaking would result in relief for or reprisal.
