Brief History: Felin Isaf means Lower Mill. Originally there were 3 Water Mills along this stream which is called Nant y Carreg Ddu, the smaller of the two was built on this site in 1680. The larger mill was built in 1740 and is much advanced in design. Milling continued until 1942 when the stones were used for milling cattle feed. The buildings were then allowed to fall into disrepair but in 1976 they were listed as being of historic and architectural interest. Renovation work began in 1978 with aid of a Job Creation Scheme under an Historic Building Grant. Since then the Mill has won the following awards for outstanding contributions to the conservation of local architecture and heritage. Prince of Award, Civic Trust Aware, Times/Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors Conservation Award
