DAILY LIFE AT SIP Daily Life at SIP: Getting to Campus ● North () Shuttle (Mountain View Caltrain Station, Saratoga HS) ○ Two options: (1) daily weekday service; (2) Mon AM & Fri PM only service ○ Sign up deadline/limit: Wed 12 noon of previous week ○ Check in on bus or upon arrival at the UCSC main campus ○ Shuttle continues to 2300 Delaware Ave Labs & Long Marine Lab Coastal Sciences campus ● South (Salinas/Watsonville) Shuttle (Salinas, Castroville, Watsonville) ○ Monday AM & Friday PM only service(no daily service) ○ Check in upon arrival

● Commuters ○ On campus: Lunch available for purchase at Rachel Carson College dining hall ($11.00), Iveta, Global Village Café, Vivas Mexican Restaurant ○ Off campus: Bring your lunch if working off-campus – no walking distance options; driving not allowed ● Residential Program ○ Lunch is included in residential package if staying in dorms (Rachel Carson College dining hall) ○ Off-campus work locations: 2300 Delaware Avenue & Coastal Sciences campus (Long Marine Lab) ○ Pack out lunch from dining hall – pick up at breakfast

● Supervision: 1 Coordinator for Residential Education, 5 RAs

● Available weeks #1–#8 (June 23–August 17)

● Sunday evening (5 – 8 pm) or Monday morning check in

● Week 1: preferred check in on Sunday, June 23

● Friday departure; can leave belongings if returning on Monday (no valuables)

● Full-week (weekday & weekend) housing for students who live far from UCSC

DAILY LIFE AT SIP Daily Life at SIP: The Dorms ● Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) at Rachel Carson dining hall ○ Tuesdays/ Thursdays: lunch offered on Science Hill ● Weekly sign ups (deadline Weds. @ noon) via SIP portal, payment via Iris ● Evening check ins; other rules explained upon arrival ● Girls and boys on separate wings of 6th floor ● If working off campus, can take shuttle to off-campus locations ● Activities on weekends and evenings, lounge for socializing, etc. ● Special notes: ○ Can stay in dorms on Wednesday, July 4 (no internship that day) ○ Can spend night in dorms before Presentation Day (Friday, August 16) DAILY LIFE AT SIP Daily Life at SIP: The First Day ● Report to Engg 2-180 at 9 AM on Mon, June 24 for Intro to Research mini workshop ● Meet mentors outside workshop at 12:00 pm ● Arrival (if on bus, get checked in; then walk in groups to E2-180 location) ● Meet mentor, other interns, research group/lab colleagues; find work space ● Your mentor will take attendance ● Take program survey ● Lab safety completion if needed ● Report back to School of Engineering/Science Hill bus stop at 3:45 pm or check in at office of porter dorms as you come in.
