GIRLS U-15 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

In the 34th minute of the USSDA National Championship, 13-year-old Jaedyn Shaw, Dallas’ captain, received a pass around the 30-yard line. She turned towards goal, took three more touches and struck the ball towards the top right corner of the goal, beating Legends FC goalie Hannah Arneson. “Her getting on that ball about 30 yards out from goal and beating a player and pushing it past and then hitting a perfect shot, that what was exactly what we needed at that time of the game,” Head Coach Matt Grubb said. “She has always been that big-game player for us. She’s always been the one that when we are struggling to shine. The goal ended up being the game-winner, as FC Dallas defeated Legends FC 2-0 to capture the inaugural U-15 Girls’ Academy Playoff Championship. FCD did not dominate the game, but the defense held strong and did not give up any dangerous chances to a Legends team that had scored at least two goals in each of their last five matches. “We didn’t really have run-of-play that much in the game, but we were extremely organized and extremely compact,” Grubb said. “We were really good in the air and we were really competitive. Realistically, that’s what really won us the game.” Riley Baker scored the insurance goal for Dallas in the 56th minute. It was Baker’s second goal in Kansas City, and her seventh goal in the team’s last 10 games. “Riley has come on of late,” Grubb said. “She worked her tail off and got so much better from the start of the season to now.” FCD only lost two of their 36 matches this season, and only dropped one match in the league after September 9. “There was some unbelievable synergy with this group,” Grubb said. “There was this unwavering belief in each other and it wasn’t necessarily that we thought we were the best team and that we would win every game, but it was just this unbelievable belief in each other, this heart for each other, to work for each other.” The title is FC Dallas’ fifth Academy championship. No other Academy has produced more than two wins. “Our ownership has committed themselves to the hiring staff; we have a goalkeeper trainer, I have assistants that are with me all the time, and we have great facilities,” Grubb said. “We do things at FC Dallas the right way, in a special way.” T:5.5” T:8.5”

FC DALLAS SUPPORTERS

DALLAS BEER GUARDIANS Founded in 2011, the Dallas Beer Guardians have grown to over 1,000 members that regularly fill the Budweiser Beer Garden at the north end of Toyota Stadium. The motto “Sanguinem Sudorem et Cervisiae” (loosely translated to, “Blood, Sweat and Beers”) is an appropriate representation of the passionate support for FC Dallas in singing for 90 and producing tifo displays to honor the team, the efforts to represent FC Dallas fans in the community, and a reputation of holding one of ’s best tailgates. Join us before the game in the Corolla Red Lot, off World Cup Way close to the west gate, before marching into the stadium in full voice with flags waving, and give the team your all! FC DALLAS SUPPORTERS

EL MATADOR El Matador is one of the oldest active FC Dallas supporters groups and the only one that actively chants in both Spanish and English. Located in the Budweiser Beer Garden, El Matador drums, chants and sings for 90 minutes at every FC Dallas match as well as creates flags, banners and tifos in support of Oscar and the boys. El Matador tailgates in the northeast grass lot before every game and invites all to join. Membership is free and all you need to do is bring your voice and two arms to waive a flag. Fiesta con todos!

LONESTAR LEGION Lone Star Legion is an independent supporters collective for FC Dallas. Our goal is to create an atmosphere in support of our club on game days, either home or away. Membership is free, and to become a member just show up and lend your voice for the boys on the pitch. We have members around the stadium, but we invite you to join us in the Budweiser Beer Garden. By being a collective group, our members have the unique ability to guide the group in its decision making process. In our support, we use many different styles from all over the world. We use chants from England, and Latin America as well as tifos from eastern European countries. We all have different styles of supporting our club, but the one thing that binds us together is our love for FC Dallas. Lone Star Legion acts as an umbrella group that looks to incorporate other groups to create a fusion of massive support for FC Dallas. We want to hear from you, and we want you to be represented. Hang your banners, and share your ideas with us because we want to put them into action.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY CHICAGO FIRE

A QUICK TURNAROUND Chicago is 3-2-1 when playing two games in four days across all competitions this season, and will play the second game in a four-day span when it travels to Texas to face FCD. With quick turnaround, the Fire will not be as rested as FC Dallas, who will be on a full weeks rest after playing two games in four days last week.

FACING A CONSISTENT ATTACK Either Aleksandar Katai or Nemanja Nikolic have scored for the Chicago Fire in five straight games across all competitions. The Fire’s consistency has lied in its attack recently, and its leading scorer, Katai has been Chicago’s main man this season with eight goals. Chicago will look to have Katai or Nikolic get on the scoresheet this weekend against a formidable back line in FC Dallas.

KEY MATCH-UPS Carlos Gruezo vs. Dax McCarty — The two players who glue their formations together will go head-to-head Saturday evening. Gruezo has started in FC Dallas’ last seven games, and has played as one of the holding midfielders, a similar role as McCarty. The match could be decided on which midfield group outplays the other, and both are vital for their team’s success. Roland Lamah vs. Kevin Ellis — The last time these two teams met saw Lamah bagging his first career MLS goal in the sixth minute of a 2-1 defeat in Chicago. Lamah hasn’t scored in three games and has just two shots in those matches as well. He will look to get back on the right foot this week against the Fire, and what better way to get back on the scoresheet than to do it against the team you scored your first MLS goal.

PROJECTED XI Chicago Fire (4-3-3): Sánchez; Corrales, Vincent, Campbell, Campos; Schweinsteiger, McCarty, Bronico; Collier, Nikolic, Katai

KEYS TO THREE POINTS FC Dallas is coming off a tough road loss to Real Salt Lake and will look to bounce back against Chicago. FCD has the advantage of rest in this matchup and will have a full week’s worth of training and rest while the Fire will be on short rest and sleep from traveling. Dallas has still not lost a home match this season, and its last game at Toyota Stadium saw a 3-2 comeback win late in the second half against Atlanta United FC. Maxi Urruti and Lamah will look to get back on the scoresheet against a Chicago team that has not had much success on the road. The Fire is currently 2-4-3 on the road this season and will be playing one of the toughest teams which has home success.
