Official Vehicle of FC Dallas TRAINING WITH BAYERN MUNICH FIRST TWO FC DALLAS PLAYERS TO TRAIN WITH BAYERN MUNICH FC Dallas’ league-leading 22nd Homegrown player, Chris Richards, and FC Dallas Academy midfielder Thomas Roberts will visit Bayern Munich for a 10-day training stint as part of the partnership announced with the Bundesliga club on Feb. 13, 2018. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for Chris and Thomas,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “Both of these players have bright futures and this experience with FC Bayern will give them great exposure to the sport on a global scale.” Richards, 18, joined the FC Dallas Academy last year and has started 14 USSDA matches for FC Dallas’ U-19s this season. The Alabama native also started all three matches for the U-19s in Dallas Cup. He scored the only goal in a 1-1 draw with Querétaro on March 28. Richards was invited to the U.S. Soccer Men’s YNT Summit Camp as part of the U-19 team. The camp ran from Jan. 2 to Jan. 11 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Roberts, 17, joined the FC Dallas Academy during the 2015-16 season. The midfielder made 26 appearances for the U-14s that season, scoring five goals. The Arkansas-native spent the 2016-17 season with FC Dallas’ U-16s, making another 28 appearances in USSDA play. He scored another three goals last season before joining FC Dallas’ U-19 for the current season. Roberts has five goals in 15 appearances this season. “Giving young players opportunities to develop their skills, adding to their game has been our intention since we set up our international office in the U.S.,” FC Bayern Munich President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal said. “We have a rigorous program lined up for the FC Dallas players and the coaches are excited to see what they will bring to the training sessions.” The FC Dallas U-19s currently have an 13-3-1 record in USSDA. MLS as a Sports Product – the Prominence of the World’s Game in the U.S. April 8, 2021 Abstract The purpose of this Working Paper is to analyze how soccer at the professional level in the U.S., with Major League Soccer as a focal point, has developed over the span of a quarter of a century. It is worthwhile to examine the growth of MLS from its first game in 1996 to where the league currently stands as a business as it moves past its 25th anniversary. The 1994 World Cup (held in the U.S.) and the subsequent implementation of MLS as a U.S. professional league exerted a major positive influence on soccer participation and fandom in the U.S. Consequently, more importance was placed on soccer in the country’s culture. The research reported here explores the league’s evolution and development through the cohesion existing between its sporting and business development, as well as its performance.
