CATALOG 2017-18 Institutional Mission CATALOG 2017-18 Institutional Mission: Erskine College exists to glorify God as a Christian academic community where students are equipped to flourish as whole persons for lives of service through the pursuit of undergraduate liberal arts and graduate theological education. Erskine College: The mission of Erskine College is to equip students to flourish by providing an excellent liberal arts education in a Christ-centered environment where learning and biblical truth are integrated to develop the whole person. Friday, July 13 Note: The calendar is subject to change. 4 From the President As I begin my first year as president of Erskine College, it is a privilege to welcome our returning students now joined by the entering Class of 2021. As interim president, I learned a great deal about the rhythms of life on the campus in Due West, coming to know this community as one with a close-knit collegial atmosphere where relationships matter and you are known personally by both the faculty and the college staff. Erskine cherishes its long history of offering our students a Christian liberal arts education which emphasizes the importance of our core curriculum and broadens an understanding of historical Western culture and that of our wider global village. The academic experience Dr. Robert E. Gustafson of Erskine College emphasizes critical thinking, President strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving, and the importance of collaborative teamwork. At this small Christian liberal arts college located in a beautiful setting, the campus itself speaks of the majesty and beauty of the created world. Our size enriches the community feel on campus and offers every student opportunities for leadership in a myriad of activities and organizations. Personal interaction of the students with faculty and staff is made possible because the classes are small and the academic experience is welcoming. As a Christian college, it is our desire to place
