Catalog 2018-19 Institutional Mission Catalog 2018-19 Institutional Mission: Erskine College exists to glorify God as a Christian academic community where students are equipped to flourish as whole persons for lives of service through the pursuit of undergraduate liberal arts and graduate theological education. Erskine College: The mission of Erskine College is to equip students to flourish by providing an excellent liberal arts education in a Christ-centered environment where learning and biblical truth are integrated to develop the whole person. Erskine’s founders envisioned a college that would prepare young adults to think biblically and to become leaders of integrity in the Church and in the wider culture. The Erskine College community has always exhibited the qualities of a close-knit academic village dedicated to careful scholarship and vibrant Christian commitment. Erskine’s strong liberal arts curriculum demands careful, critical thinking and clear, precise writing as well as collegial, collaborative teamwork. These skills enable Dr. Robert E. Gustafson our graduates to serve Christ, His Church, and President the wider culture. As a small liberal arts college in a bucolic setting, we prize our campus, which displays the beauty of the created world. Mofifatt and Martha Jane Wilson, was born Wm ^it Wheeling, Fulton county, Arkansas, July 17, i860. He gained his ^^^ elementary education from his mother, and afterwards attended schools in Uniontown, Ohio, at Xenia and St. Clairsville, in the same state. After two years in Erskine College, he spent two years in Muskingum College, New Con- cord, Ohio, graduating there in 1883. Being received as a student in theology by the Western Presbytery of the United Presbyterian Church, at ]\Iulberry. Missouri, he took a three-years' course at the United Presbyterian Seminar\- at Allegheny, Pa. In April, 1886, he connected himself with the First Presbytery of the Asso- ciate Reformed Synod, and had charge of the mission at Charlotte.

    2018-2019 Academic Catalog The electronic Academic Catalog will be the official version for Coker College MISSION OF THE COLLEGE Coker College is a student-centered, comprehensive college. It is dedicated to providing every student enrolled in the Day Program and in the Adult Degree Program an academic curriculum based upon a uniformly excellent liberal arts core that enhances the structured development of key personal skills. The College’s goal is to graduate students with the ability to think analytically and creatively, and to write and speak effectively. Experiences both in and out of the classroom are focused on active student involvement and the practical application of academic knowledge that lead to lifelong learning. Coker measures its success by the personal and professional accomplishments enjoyed by all members of the academic community. The Coker College Mission Statement was most recently reviewed and revised by removing the phrase “baccalaureate degree granting” from the first sentence. The change in wording was first presented by the President to the faculty at a senate meeting on September 10, 2009. At the October 29, 2009 meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Chair of the Faculty and Educational Policy Committee of the Board presented a motion to change the mission statement and the entire Board unanimously approved it.
